A little here and there

Tomorrow we plan to put out the beta of GalCiv II v1.7.   My work has mostly been on tweaking the AI and some of the values.  I made morale buildings a bit better and made the spore stuff a bit more expensive.

v1.7 should definitely have stability improvements for players.  The new garbage collector code should reduce the memory foot print which will hopefully resolve the problem with out of memory errors that some players have run into.

Another improvement is the AI ship sorting should be significantly faster and keep the AI from touching ships that have been destroyed (a rare but existing crash problem).

I'm pretty happy with what v1.7 has done so far.  It definitely needs more play testing since there are quite a few new features and other tweaks in there but I think players will be happy.

I believe you mentioned an overhaul of leases and starbase management. Will that be in the beta?

Can't wait, regardless!

Sounds good. I am very happy to hear it is coming today

Great, I'm looking forward to giving it a go!

I'll give it a thorough testing when it arrives.

By the way, there are a few graphical glitches that show up when I play. I ussually save and quit at that point, because either I can't play because its a black screen with a little flicker, and the game ussually crashes sortly after. I've been meaning to report them. I'm wondering if 1.7 beta be a good time to report them (if any show up)?

Couldn't hurt

Software developers do like to isolate issues, though. Mixing Nvidia/Vista issues with 1.7 beta issues could be harder to debug.

can't wait! I even checked for the update before coming here. Hurry Brad!

is it me, or is Brad being more vocal (well, textual) than usual today? there was a fair period of 'radio silence', so to speak, then the fall release schedule was announced, and in the last two days i've seen several very interesting posts from Brad.

we missed hearing from you - i did, at least.

Usually the announcement goes on IRC first, then SDC , then here.
