This morning I visited G4 and taped an episode of X-Play while I demoed Sins of a Solar Empire.

The people there are totally awesome. Morgan Webb is totally awesome.

It's nice to get away from a debugger and get to actually visit and hang out with fellow gamers.

Here's a link to the show. They're rebroadcasting it again later tonight.

Congrats on the press coverage, though I have to admit I've not watched that show or network in soooooo long it's pathetic.  I used to love the old Tech TV (or ZDTV channel when it was that), but once it became G4 it went down hill quickly for me.

I'm sure that there are plenty of people that do watch it though, and hopefully some of them will wind up being customers for you

I miss the old format. I don't watch that channel ever since the switch formats.

My first experience ever with Stardock software was seeing Brad on Call For Help (when G4 was ZDTV back in 2002) demoing WindowBlinds. Next thing I know, I'm working for them. How cool is that?

Well...if G4's site could actually stream video, I'd have watched the whole thing... Instead, I only suffered 3/4 of it. What I saw looked good...

In other news, it sure would be nice to have an option on flash video to "BUFFER ALL" for those pesky websites that won't/can't provide enough per-user bandwidth to stream properly yet insist on trying to do so. I'd rather wait for the download to finish than have to pause repeatedly while the buffer on a tiny postage stamp video catches up despite my having 8mbit download sitting practically idle.

I saw it tonight. I hadn't yet looked at Sins; but it looks pretty sweet. I love how instead of switching from battle view to an overview or whatever its just a straight zoom in/out. Nifty stuff. Good thing I just got a job, I think there are a few expenses in my future...

Brad said the funniest thing regarding the game ruining people's lives:

"Yeah, but you don't have to pay $15 a month for it."

Take that, World of Warcraft!

Looks so freaking cool.

I would TOTALLY buy it if my computer could handle it. When I get my next box, you bet I'm in for a copy.

I dunno.

The graphics seemed too retro. The ships looked like they were 2D extruded to 3.
Simple textures on much too basic forms.
The graphics of Genesis Rising seem much better.
And the interface and race graphics?
Too cartoonish.

I doubt I will get it.

It seems to me that since WoW, "cartoonish" has been used to describe any graphical element that one does not like. Something cartoonish is exaggerated, and overwhelmingly colourful. The Sins interface is gray/silver, and high-tech looking. In fact, it's not all that different (in look) than the TA interface.
I also have a problem understanding your opinion that the graphics are ugly. Every time I look at a Sins screenshot, the first thought that goes throught my head is "cool", followed by a "awesome" when I realise that the game engine can handle dozens of these beautiful ships and seamlessly zoom in and out of battles.

I agree that the design is a bit retro, though, especially the TEC ships. But I actually like it.

Anyway, I shouldn't be arguing about flavour. It just annoyed me a bit that you didn't provide any explanation for saying that the game looks bad.

The entire intro video sequence before they got to the interview part was absolutley ancient--I personally have no idea why they used it rather than just asking us for some up-to-date footage. It was the pre-beta trailer... possibly even from before we signed IC on. Beta 1 literally looked better than that.

If you look you'll notice that the gameplay segment that Brad demoed and the recently released gamma screenshots look far, far better than that trailer.

LOL GR graphics better then sins....LOL

Not only does SINS look great and have sweet particle effects but IT NEVER LAGS!!

NOT ONCE has since even so much as stammered! And thats the BETA. Never, It has played perfectly no mater what zoom level no matter how many ships. An the detail is increadable. When you upgrade lasers say, They actually change color!
SINS gets a 10 for graphics in my book not only because it looks fantastic but the quality is amazing...AND this is still BETA!.

Actually i think what i saw on X-Play last night looked a little better then the beta, seems like there are improvments. Also did you get to hang with Morgan a bit? Or just while you where on air?

I got to talk to Morgan quite a bit on games and such.  She loves Supreme Commander for instance. A true gamer.
