Premium subscriber goodies

As far as I know, JoeUser.com is the only blog community on the Internet.  There are various blog services out there but each blog is an island. That is, they are completely isolated from other sites on there.

The downside of the way we have JoeUser is that it's hard to avoid having the opinions of those who you dislike show up on your page somewhere as part of the "newest" or "featured" and the like.  Of course, as some people who have left JoeUser because of those reasons have learned, that also helps bring people to their site.  So they may write the most compelling things but few will read them (other than perhaps other former JU people they've met).

What we need to do is find a way to let users have the best of both worlds -- for people to be able to have blogs that they have more control over what shows up on the side-bar but still get lots of people reading what they write.

To that end, we're formulating JoeUser.com premium subscriptions. It would be $24.95 sign up plus $2.99 per month.  The sign-up would give the user the first 3 months plus a copy of Blog Navigator Pro (Blog Navigator Pro is how I write all my blogs these day sand read through JoeUser).  Other bonuses would be a photo album feature enabling users to have a album tab on their blog that they can submit images into and organize.  They would also be able to customize the look and feel of their blog far more so than the templates we have today.

Time-line for this? Probably early next year.  Have to finish WinCustomize.com first. But after that we'll be able to look at putting these features in.

What do you think?

Let the reader put the side bar where they want, use whatever colors they want, etc.

I gotsta agree with this.... although I'll admit I didn't think about it until I read this comment. Really, we write for our readers, so they should be able to customize their experience... if they subscribe.

yeah, killer -- I'll be happy to pay for more features and 2.99 a month is more than reasonable!

Brad...you are the devil. Zombie was right! Just when I think I can live with the addicitons I have, you give us a new and improved version of the free drug for a price. You should be ashamed!

Where do Zombie and I sign up for the premium membership?

Off-topic here, but I don't know where else to let you know...

I'm a regular reader through firefox's live bookmarks. But your RSS feed seems to be broken. the last post I got was "generosity index" both in Firefox and in thunderbird. I'm missing my "opinionated techie." Also a "techie," I hold many of the same views as you.

to be able to see who trolls me....*evil grin*

even without the "who" I would love to know which of my comments drew the most trollings... I think the who would lead to excessive animosity

Historyishere posted an article about the RSS feeds over the weekend. Has anyone reported or are you aware that the individual RSS feeds are not updated past the 10th? I'm able to get every JU article through the generic JU RSS feed, but my Blog Navigator blogroll folder isn't pulling articles from any of the individual sites I pull from. I checked various feeds by clicking the RSS button at the top of the sites and I've noticed that none of them are updated from the 10th. Thanks.

Id pay an extra penny, ($3.00 instead of $2.99) to be able to see who trolls me....*evil grin*

HAHA! I'd settle for knowing where I was getting trolled. Not necessarily who trolled me.

I noticed this too, thought everyone suddenly had real lives....

Okay, here is a big one I really, really want. Can there please be an option similar to the "Trolling" for articles as well? At times there are ones that are so stupid, so thoughtless that you really hate giving the poster points by responding simply to tell them they are idiots.

Hi Mr. Brad!

Quick question in regards to Blog Nav. Pro....I see that it's purchase comes with the first 3 months of $2.99. That's good! What I was wondering was could a person pay for like a year in advance, so there would only be an annual payment, like Object Desktop is done to renew each year? One $36.00 bill a year, then there isn't another monthly bill to pay! ! Just curious! And Thank You!

Here are the features I would like to see for the JoeUser subscription:

1. total control over the content of my blog homepage
2. the ability to remove links to latest articles, latest forum posts, featured articles, top articles, top users, top blogsites, ect.
3. the ability to completely block users that annoy me, I don't want them to be able to post to my site or see my site or any of my articles and I don't want to see their articles
4. no advertising or less if the subscription fee doesn't cover enough of the costs to remove advertising from my blog entirely
