Am I the only one who has wished they could press a button when reading some trolling comment and summon the troll to their presence?

Not to punch them in the nose or anything but for study. What kind of person is a troll?

My personal favorite troll that I encounter is the entitled gamer. Are they an adult? Do they have a family? Do they literally live under a bridge?

For every one i reported another popped up...You just know there will be a spam post from this guy, reply 5, within a few days, seems that's the new MO. Make a few seemingly harmful replies before unleashing their spam.

Neilo...I'd already removed him [just missed that comment]...but it's now gone too.

And no...I'll not be at the Clipsal...too close to the GrandPrix...though the guys who come over from Adelaide to stay with us for the GP will be there...

Trolls are interesting creatures really....can even be mildly entertaining....though it's often a race as to whose ADD kicks in first that sees them 'gone' ...

From what I've read in this thread it's my opinion that Fistalis is NOT an "entitled gamer" However the reality of DD is that the company providing the service could go belly up and that would be the end of the account access. So far the more likely problem is the DD can be sold and the new owner may not do things the way the old owner did them.

Entitlement, to me, seems to come out in examples like....

Sins Trinity becoming available on Steam and customers of the Impulse version expecting free keys to the Steam version.

Buying a game version A and when version Gold comes out expecting Gold for free.

Buying Game Prime and then two years later expecting Game Squeal 2 to be the exact same game with better graphics.

Almost forgot.

"I'm a paying customer. WHERE IS MY PATCH?"

I don't think fistalis is being entitled here.

Imy the movies I bought through vudu suddenly couldn't work anymore I'd be ticked. Same for any digital service.

Save me from this detour.....

You wandered off into the ether and everyone picked on me....

I think the term 'Internet Troll' has split into two distinct definitions:

1) The original meaning, and the one Frogboy is most likely referring to, which is based on the story of the troll living under the bridge, jumping out and causing problems to people minding their own business.  These are the folks that complain because that's just what they do.  They're angry, and they intend to take it out on the Internet.

2) The joke troll, that often uses subterfuge to poke fun.  The Rick-roll, for instance.  Also, http://artoftrolling.memebase.com/.

My favorites are the ones that try to troll the Mormon chats about magnets and the like, but get trolled back instead.  Love a good reversal.

Wasn't Direct2Drive the service where they would only let you install a game a couple of times anyways? I think I bought SotS:Born of Blood from them and when I realized they'd only let me install it a couple times I never bought anything else from them.

I didn't click on that link in case it was a Rick-roll...

I would like to dissect one. I am very curious about their internal structure.

Now I wish I had thought to do that...

Nope.  They used to have a 5 activation limit, but it was easily reset by talking to customer service.

What I personally hated was how many of their products used a huge setup file which Vista/7/8 had to verify with consent.exe which took forever.  So once Gamefly gets my stuff added their service will be a lot less annoying.

The real trolls are those in real life and have integrated it into their day job.

For example, certain very popular talk show hosts or as I call them political entertainers, have mastered the art of trolling usually in the form of hidden Ad hominem attacks.

I'd like to do a study myself to see the correlation between trolls and people who are entertained by others getting trolled over the airwaves.

If you really want to see a professional troll technique IRL that is actually used in business then I suggest you see the (new) Delphi technique.  No not the one listed in wikipedia, that's the old legit Delphi method.  The new one is a very clever form of trolling manipulation to get the illusion of consensus from a group but in fact all it does is some community sleight of hand.

I'm showing you this so you can more easily identify this specific standard trolling IRL technique, not to be used for malicious purposes.

DON'T BE EVIL

Best song for this video btw:

And here is the actual technique itself being used by special interests on a small community township:
