Brad Wardell's views about technology, politics, religion, world affairs, and all sorts of politically incorrect topics.

imageAs pressure mounts to raise the wages of fast food workers, advocates may want to take note that such wage increases eventually pass a threshold where it makes financial sense to simply invest in automation. As Grocery Store cashiers learned, these jobs are not a given. We are all competing not just with each other but with robots.

One of the primary reasons that the gap between the rich and poor has increased so much in the past 20 years has been the rise in IT.  Once we purchase a computer, robot, etc. its capabilities – its output and productivity are owned by the buyer which increases the wealth generated by that person.

As people demand McDonalds pay workers $15 an hour and the government insists that they also provide health care, restaurant owners are increasingly evaluating whether to simply replace their work force with machines.

Naturally, in 2017 when today’s “living wage advocate” is ordering their Big Mac from a friendly touch screen and having it delivered momentarily by a robot they’ll make no connection between how their beliefs resulted in more people living in poverty. Instead, they’ll blame McDonalds. They’ll blame greedy restaurant owners. But they won’t consider that perhaps it wasn’t such a good idea to price people out of their workforce.

I doubt Frogboy intended/expected his thread to be a sounding board for 'extremist' attitudes.

Yes, it classifies as 'extremist'.  Since the dawn of time, whether that was God's 6000 years or Evolution's Millennia - Man has been an OMNIVORE.

Humans do not have multi-stage stomachs or true ruminant teeth in order to manage grass.  Meat has always been a significant part of our diet.

Equating NORMAL human diet to 'rape' is more ABSURD than 'extreme'.

I'd suggest you desist.  You are entirely free to author a thread of your own in lieu.

not having a central nervous system, how is it possible for a plant to register pain?  if you believe this kind of false logic, you would no sooner cut your lawn then you would chop up a live dog.

You check it out.  You will find many interesting things that have been discovered when things have been hooked up to a polygraph that rationally can't be explained away.  If you don't want to believe it, your loss.  Everyone has to make their own decisions.

if kindness,  compassion and morality are not enough, why not go vegan for the purely selfish reason of personal health?

"The healthcare company’s peer-reviewed medical science journal tells physicians to promote plant-based diets to patients. To address the rising cost of healthcare and skyrocketing rates of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease, medical publication The Permanente Journal recently released an article encouraging physicians to advise patients to reduce meat, dairy, and processed food consumption and implement a plant-based diet. It points to research showing that consuming whole foods can reduce the need for medication for chronic illnesses and decrease risk of fatal ischemic heart disease, all while offering the most cost-effective prevention and low-risk medical intervention. “Healthy eating may be best achieved with a plant-based diet … Physicians should consider recommending a plant-based diet to all their patients,” the article states."

"Everyone has to make their own decisions."

except of course the countless billions of farmed animals who have no choice or decison in their pain, suffering and brutal deaths.

"Being entitled to your own opinion is totally fine. However, a personal choice stops being just that once it interferes with the life of another being. The "right" to do so is only make-believe, ignorant tradition, and because you can. But you steal the rights from someone else in the process. Choosing to eat meat is anything but a personal choice. You are choosing the fate of other living beings, and also removing the opportunity for a real life from them. It's also a decision that affects our environment/planet in a very bad way, which in turn is something that affects all of us. "-John Fritzell

I'm not talking about what is right or ethical.  I'm talking about the ability to affect the decisions of others.  Since it isn't always easy to affect other's decisions, each person has the responsibility to make their free-will choice.  Regardless of whether something is considered unethical or inhumane, only a big shift in the human collective will change it on the largest scale.  But we still can, and need to be, responsible for our own choices.

the flaw in your reasoning is that non-human animals count as others and yet have no choice in the matter.  when considering any form of injustice, the view of the victim is of paramount importance because when you yourself are not the victim, it is very easy to justify violence, abuse and even murder.  the idea is to treat all others the way you yourself wish to be treated-aka the Golden Rule.

Whoever is content with the world, and who profits from its lack of justice, does not want to change it.”-Friedrich Durrenmatt

“Saying eating animals is “yummy” as a justification for killing them is pretty much the same argument as saying rape is okay since it feels good to the rapist. Civilized people require more than sensory pleasure to justify behaviors.”

Denying biology is the same as suicide.  As long as you take no one else with you, it is your choice.

Man cannot live without Vitamin B12.  The only natural source of that vitamin is Animal products.  You may not like how evolution (or God) designed man.  But to deny the basic truths is silly and unproductive.

Man is not designed to be an herbivore.  Period.

If society can't make it worthwhile for many to have jobs- let them not have jobs and be taken care of through guaranteed minimum incomes.

That would maximize societal benefit.

Some folks wouldn't mind it if people starved under that scenario, but they often forget that it just takes one twist of fate for them to be the ones starving and jobless.

twist of fate for them to be the ones starving and jobless.

Most have been in a position of joblessness.  The difference is that most went out and got another one.  And worked their way back up.

Simple economics tell you that a company cannot stay in business paying a person more than their labor is worth.  Period.  It does not matter about any mythical "living wage".  If you do not support yourself through your labors, you have only yourself to blame.

Just think how much better off everyone would be by now were it not for 'fairness'.

Starter jobs would be just that.  Not a career onto themselves.
