Map of Jesus Land explained
Published on December 17, 2004 By Draginol In Republican

In my Christmas letter I talked about liberal Democrats fleeing to Canada to escape "Jesus Land".  I've talked to some family members and friends who weren't familiar with this reference. So for those of them that visit my blog, here's what I was referring to:

Shortly after the election a bunch of far left wing bloggers and journalists started claiming that the only reason why Bush won is because the "Jesus Freaks" came out in force to vote for Bush. And so in their view we have a divided country with one side being "rational, thoughtful, intelligent" people who should break off and hook up with Canada and the other side a bunch of "moronic, reactionary religious nuts who are too blind to recognize what a Nazi Bush is" who should just form their own country and call it "jesus land".

And a John Kerry supporter then created this map to lampoon conservatives. I thought it was pretty funny but not for the same reasons. Where the Kerry supporters seemed to think it spoke a lot more proof, conservatives, such as myself who aren't even religious, found it amusing in demonstrating that those partiuclarly liberals just don't have a clue why they lost. So I decided to refer to it in my letter.

In my Christmas letter, I overestimated how many people had heard of this thing. They thought I had made up the concept of "Jesus Land" and map. I didn't.  I was poking fun at far left wing people who had crudely tried to stereotype Bush voters.

Woohoo! more provinces for us! Yay!

I have a problem with that map. Kerry only won a handful of counties in my state of Illinois. Hypothetically speaking, if the dems want seccession, then only take that which you've won.

There is precedence for that.  Where do you think WVA came from? So seceed from the rest of the state and become south (or west or east) Illinois.

I think PA has to be split in half as well

All I can say, I am glad Minnesota is in good ol' Canada. That's where I'm from, I suppose I am one of those luney lefties. I'm damn proud of it though.
I have nothing against the U.S., just those who chose the dictator running it.

As long as everyone realizes that this is a joke. Take it too seriously and you quickly qualify as one of the extremist the joke is poking fun at.

Sometimes I think this whole site needs to take a collective laxative, have a good dump and then maybe they'll gain back some of their sense of humour. <--- Try it, you might like it.

So, all those attacks on Bush voters calling them redneck Jesus freaks and what not aren't meant to be taken seriously or mean absolutely anything in any way? Does that also include the attacks such as that British magazine that said how can so many Americans be so dumb? None of it is to mean anything or show scorn for bush voters whatsoever?

No, that's not what I said, is it? What I did say was, "As long as everyone realizes that this is a joke."

In this instance, "this" was referring to the map at the beginning of the article. That is all. That's it. Fini! Over! Not every little slight said since the beginning of time between us and them, but this one, small, funny map.

I pledge allegiance, to the flag, of Jesusland. And to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice to all.

So jokes can never have any resentment or social commentary in it? For example, although the map is fictitious, it in no way can insist that the people who created the map think that all of Bush's supporters are country bumpkin intolerant Jesus freaks? Does the same work for racial jokes in that in no way are they meant to offend anybody?

A joke, eh? :

Somebody should tell these people it's just a joke.

Every joke offends somebody. Why, just the other day I saw a joke that involved a Marine tossing a dog out of a moving train. When I indicated that the joke was funny except for the cruelty to animals part, I was quickly reprimanded and told to lighten up.

Perhaps what is really needed is the erradication of joking. Get rid of pundits, humorists, comedians and satirists. Abolish humour altogether. After all, ( and I paraphrase here) " when a human laughs it causes the face to contort making them resemble monkeys. It is trully the work of the devil." While we're at it, let's do away with civility, manners, and all those other cumbersome affectations that hinder getting at the real truth. The truth that everyone and every thing is out to ridicule me and my contemporaries; is out to criticize my beliefs; is out to destroy 'right' thinking individuals.

No. What's needed is for people to stop pretending that every single joke in the entire universe is meant to be entirely light-hearted and say nothing about anything whatsoever. In other words, stop pretending that the joke in no way is meant to imply anything whatsoever about the red states or the blue states.

You seem bent on winning this useless debate. And I have no wish to continue it. So, for the sake of the peace I will concede. You can herald this from the rooftops if you wish. You are absolutely right and I am absolutely wrong. You have won. Sleep good in the knowledge. No need to continue now. See ya.

An interview was recently aired about the very people trying to do away with "Jesus Land" through litigation and document banning.
