Well tomorrow is my birthday. Which means, naturally, my family has come down with a virus.  I've finished tucking them all in and can now surf the net a bit before getting some late night work done.

Linda Folely demonstrates why people don't trust the media anymore even if her demonstration is unintentional.

Democrats are mad at Karl Rove for pointing out a stereo-type between the left and the right when it's come to the war on terror. The American Right: "Let's go get the guys who did this!" and the left: "We need to understand why they hate us and fix ourselves."  I'm not sure what exactly is offensive about poining out the obvious, especially during a week when Democratic senators are comparing our troops with Nazis and Pol Pot.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court Ruling that the state can now confiscate lands from people to hand over to richer people (i.e. ones who will create more bucks for the state) has created quite an uproar on the net.  Talk about playing into Bush's hands.  Now Bush can truthfully say that this is why we have to be assertive on getting conservative judges on the bench.  When the court starts handing the government new powers like candy, it should be a wake-up call that this judge issue is serious.  Or perhaps they'll wait until the state starts evicting churches (tax exempt, tsk tsk) in favor of Walmart.

Looks like bionic arms are getting better.

Is Longhorn going to be worth the wait? Here is someone with some thoughts on it.

On a different topic, for all the screaming about Gitmo being a gullag, it's interesting how rarely it gets mentioned that no one has died in captivity there.  I suppose it's a good thing that the people complaining now weren't in charge back in World War II when treatment of POWs was decidedly rougher.

Glaciers seem to come and go over the years. The thing that annoys me about global warming advocates (other than that they usually know very little about the science and hence come across like people trying to argue that the bible is scientifically proven because "scientists" have "shown that to be the case") is that they often really aren't solid on what global warming actually is supposed to be around.  According to global warming theory, the earth's atmosphere is warming up because of an increase in greenhouse gasses.  People then point out how much warmer some places seem to be.  How about this theory -- warming surfaces.  Cities are heat sinks.  Go to New York some summer day.  I wouldn't be surprised that the earth's surface is warmer, particularly in areas that have been built up.   The evidence for amospheric temperature increases is pretty sparse IMO.

As for global warming,
Turn off the sun for 24 hours and see how warm it gets in New York.

*glances at comment above and shakes his head* "Rrright....."

Well, congrats Brad...and enjoy your birthday.....

Dr. Bailey,
Remember the bio dome experiment.
An enclosed environment which was to last over a year.
The dome ran out of oxygen in 2 weeks.
That sums up our knowledge of the environment.
I would not except the theory on global warming just yet.

We really know very little about how the earth works.  But every generation seems to have its share of people who are certain we've figured it out.

Just a century ago, eugenics was considered to be a solid theory too.

Draginol you just don't get it. Global Warming is a huge problem and the damage is becoming close to irreversible. What you need to do is Google up "Global Dimming", which is making the percieved "Warming" less noticable, because we're recieving less sunlight each year due to dimming. Together these problems are incredibly worrysome to everyone from the most casual intellectual, to the most learned scientists.

I think you need to hit the text books and learn the facts rather than spouting off the traditional "Party Line" on the subject. So many people these days are so predictable in what they believe simply based on the party rhetoric of their chosen political affiliation. It is sad how simplistic most people have become.

Karl Rove only shows his ignorance of the political scene - If you read his entire speech - it was more that a stereotype - it was a labeling that democrats aren't strong against terrorism. Which is far from the truth.

Personally I hope they replace some churches with more parking lots. They seem to do more good than many churches.

Brad - I'm surprised if you believe Global warming isn't happening. It is. What is debatable is that how much can be attributed to man and how much is natural. That is where the debate is.

And maybe both of you should go do a little reading. Might I suggest some titles for you? Try these:

There are quite a few more. But I figured this would be enough to start. Now you want to know why some people won't believe you? I can give you one good one. Answer this question. What ended the ice age that killed off the dinosaurs? Can't blame that global warming on man....we weren't there!

"Answer this question. What ended the ice age that killed off the dinosaurs? Can't blame that global warming on man....we weren't there"

Once again those 3 articles are party line quotes and worse you cite a WORK OF FICTION to substantiate your facts? Amazing. If you have done a shred of reading, you'd know the answer to your own question, Dinosaurs overpopulated, deforested, and produced massive excrement and gases that led to their own downfall. Fairly similar to what we're doing and I suggest you read up more.

Global Warming, and worse, Global Dimming are fact, and the right wing rhetoric about it being fake is stomach wrenching and makes our country look like FOOLS to the world. When the rest of the world believes it is a problem - and has the facts to prove it, and the US doesn't, we look like idiots. You are misled by corporate and business greedmongers that don't want any regulation or environment concerns to impact their expansion and profits. They're pulling wool over most peoples eyes, and it is sad.

You STILL have not answered the question have you? In other words this has happened "before"! And just an FYI.... NONE of the articles I linked has ANYTHING to do with republicans. Now try again.

Next time try actually reading an article first! #2 was done by a BRIT that lives and works in the UK! So now who's pathetic?

I didn't say that the earth isn't getting warmer.  I am saying that I am not convinced that the earth's atmosophere is getting warmer due to an increase of greenhouse gases.
