You can see the full results here: http://www.cnn.com/election/2012/results/race/president#exit-polls Here is what I found interesting: Obama won the youth vote 60% to 37%. Romney won the retired vote 56% to 44%.   Obama won the high school graduates (and dominates those who didn’t finish high school) and also won decisively amongst those who pursued postgraduate degrees. Romney won the college graduate vote.   H...

Caused a minor outrage on Qt3 a couple years ago by being uncomfortable with individual leaders having their own logo. I stupidly pointed out that personalized logos have commonly been used by totalitarian movements in the past (Godwin alert!) But you know, it’s still creepy. And you know what else is creepy? To politicians: STOP IT.

Just curious, how serious would you take the views of someone who made their money by winning the lottery when it comes to economics and business? So picture this, 40 some year old couple with a yearly household income of around $200k suddenly has a windfall of over a million dollars in one year. Not from their job. Not from a business. Not from meeting some life long goal. The money just suddenly showed up. What do you think their attitude would be towards other people who were rich? ...

So why do people demonize companies that outsource to China but it's perfectly acceptable for individuals to go and buy things made in China? Next time someone wants to rant about company X outsourcing, they should, at least, start trying to buy American if they feel that way.

In our local school district, it’s $7,600 per student. Mind you, this is just the state’s contribution to it. That doesn’t count other sources (local and federal for instance). The total amount is allegedly $12,000 per student. Next time someone yells about the “Slashing” of a few hundred dollars per student, we’re talking a tiny percentage cut. If you paid a teacher $100,000 per year to teach a class of 30 students, that would be $3,000 per student.  There are, cert...

Victor Davis Hanson has a very lengthy and interesting article today on the various Republican candidates. I can’t say I’m terribly excited about any of them. You’ve got Newt who is all over the place on issues and frankly, makes me think it’s more about him and his love of power than any thought of public service. You’ve got Romney who I can’t even understand why he’s running in the first place as he doesn’t seem to be very passionate about anything. There’s Santorum who I...

Because of the way the media treats those of us who are right of center politically, when we get into social situations, we are used to just keeping our mouths shut. But it turns out that a lot, perhaps even most, people are right of center (in the United States anyway) but we often don’t realize it because we get so beaten down that our opinions on liberty and freedom are so “unfair”. So usually a discussion will slowly unwind where a person stands bit by by.  First, you start o...

We heard endless about the unsubstantiated charge that some Tea Partier spat on an African American congressman but amazingly, the atrocious behavior of the Occupy movement has largely been ignored or excused. I have friends and family who practically seethe with hatred towards “fucking tea baggers” who I know are sympathetic for the Occupy Wall Street people. What the hell is the matter with these people? While I don’t consider myself a “Tea Partier”, I cannot grasp the antipathy dire...

So, on the one hand, I like the idea of having a 0 emissions house. On the other I have philosophical objections to the federal government picking winners and losers. So I have some trepidation as I install the 20KW solar array because of the almost insane level of tax incentives on it.

The answer is almost always: No, actually it doesn’t. In almost any debate, we’ll hear about how the “United States is the only X that does Y [or doesn’t do]”. Except that’s not the case when you compare apples and apples. One of the constant, long-time, ongoing debates in the United States is one that Europeans now find themselves in as well – where do the “states” stop and the “union” start? When you dig into countless numbers of political topics, you find that opposition t...

Did you watch the most recent “This Week” on ABC? You get a real idea of the bankruptcy of the political left through the dishonesty and pettiness of its advocates.   http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=9585338

Discussion I had on Treehugger.com:   We all need to make money, that's a given in this modern day and age. The issue greens have with "capitalism" is that it is done almost completely devoid of conscience and consideration for the long term outcomes. ("This asthma medicine may help control your asthma symptoms that have not been brought under control by existing medications.... this medication may increase your risk of death from asthma.&qu...

As someone on Twitter pointed out, the same people who want universal healthcare are the same people who are hoping Rush Limbaugh will die. Whenever the government gets involved in something, it becomes about politics. I don’t want health care decided by politicians. As the Stimulus spending has shown – the best predictor of who will get government money is whether they agree with those spending it.

Ironically, this article comes from the much hated (by some) “Faux News”: http://www.foxnews.com/slideshow/politics/2009/12/31/big-stories-mainstream-media-missed What is interesting is that for all the angst about Fox News that I see online that its popularity is often due to reporting things that simply get ignored elsewhere. I prefer bias by commission rather than omission.
