John Kerry's VP...

Who will Kerry pick?

That seems to be the hot topic right now. Who is John Kerry going to pick for his VP candidate. In our upcoming game, The Political Machine (www.politicalmachine.com), the AI controlled Kerry tends to pick someone from Missiouri or Iowa. So to be safe, we put in Richard Gephardt complete with artwork for him. That wasn't too tough. I mean, he's a likely choice. But who could Kerry pick from Iowa? The governor of Iowa is Tom Vilsack, a Democrat. He's a possibility. So just to be safe, we added him in there. So if he ends up the VP candidate (not likely but who knows) we'll be all set.

But who do YOU think will be the choice?

What about Tom Harkin? He's the only Senator from Iowa to have been reelected to a third term and has a pretty strong base within Iowa. It might be tough though because he endorsed Dean.

This may be the year where Gephardt could do well on a national ticket. He seems strong on unions and protectionism, so he could help on the outsourcing issue specifically and the economy overall. I've always found him too labour oriented but that may be a plus this year, and would complement Kerry's Rich East Coast Liberal image well.

edwards is probably the wisest obvious choice. id already typed ' john lewis (d-ga) would be interesting but perhaps too much of a gamble' before i ran a search on lewis and found his bio. its a gamble worth taking. if i were kerry id also consider john glenn. whats that they say about a 3-person short list? hahahahah

The question of the day, I don't think it will be anyone too exciting but, might be someone we don’t expect-

His first choice was McCain, Not sure if there was a rope a dope or what, McCain introducing Bush at Fort Lewis saying "He is the man for the Job" will hurt Kerry across the board. It was a big gamble to talk so much McCain behind the scenes, then Have McCain standing with Bush so soon after. Lessons need to be learned there.

Edwards is out, Kerry has really shown he has no interest in trying to win a single state in the south (except Florida.) He keeps talking about showing that Gore could win an election without a single southern state (I don't get it, he lost so I don't think that shows us anything) I like Edwards a great deal, but not enough to vote Kerry if he is just VP pick, the other way around would (Edwards picking Kerry) would be a stronger ticket after the fact

Gephardt is out. The reason I say that is that in his bid, he did not even place in the top 2 in his own state. That is not a good sign if you really wanna win state points. Gore lost Tenn, his home state...Would this game have picked that? I am guessing not, real life is impossible to guess completely. so, he is out, he brings nothing to the table.

Bill C is not an option, the Constitution state you must be able to meet all the requirements for President. Hillary wants to be running for president in 2008, not 2012, so she is not a real choice.

The best VP pick in my mind is Clark. With the economy doing so well, and projected to do so well, Kerry needs to focus on anything bad happening from Iraq, and to get troops home ASAP. Getting troops home ASAP is a great sell, historically is a good sell as well. Iraq is not going to be pretty for a few more years (though I am very sure Iraq will be a strong democratic sate someday.) But it sounds like his stock is down from the Kerry Camp, which after the McCain ordeal prolly is a good sign. a betting man would put some money here, I would say 20 percent chance.

I still give the rest of the field out there pretty high. Tom Harkin is a chance, but so in just about anyone in those states. My guess would be to make a way to allow a patch of new pre made candidates to be created. I do think it is just too open. Clark is my safe guess though if I have to say right now who it will be.

Kerry needs Missoiri (sp) or Iowa to win. So I suspect the VP choice will be from one of those two states. At least that's what the AI version of Kerry keeps doing.

The notion that Tom Harkin should be the VP is completely out of left field. He has the warmth and stage presence of a leper.

How is Bush Presidential material? And Gore and Kerry aren't? Gore was VP for eight years, and Kerry was Senator for 20. Bush was just a figurehead governor and now a figurehead president.
