It's good. It's really good!

I really like Stargate: SG1.  I watch it every week.  The characters are good, the stories are good, and despite every planet looking a lot like the forests near Vancouver, the universe they play in is good.

I wasn't expecting much of Stargate Atlantis so it came as a pleasant surprise that it was so good.  I mean really good. The jury is out on the characters but the story and backdrop are really outstanding.  The bad guys have to be amongst the scariest bad guys I've seen on TV before.  Think really really bad ass vampires.  Vampires who defeated the ancients, which is particularly scary since the ancients are the ones who built the stargates in the first place!

So I can safely say that I recommend giving it a try. I think they have a hit on their hands.

I don't know... I like the original so much I feel like I am doing something wrong watching the spin off

I really liked the premier. I'm still not sure about the characters, but the basic premise is rather exciting. We've gone from pagan gods to vampires, and considering the varied cultures in which those creatures appear it seems like a fitting parallel. Looks to me like the ancients that returned to Earth took with them more than just the legend of Atlantis sinking beneath the ocean.

When SG1 first came out and I saw the commercials for it I thought "Oh please, give me a break", so I didn't actually give it a try until it had already been out for about 3 years. Then one night I watched an episode and was pleasantly surprised—and that’s how this SG1 fan was born.

The first episode of Atlantis was decent but also a little disappointing. To me it seemed what they essentially did was said “Let’s take SG1 and make it more uber!” The new stargate addresses don’t have 6 symbols, they don’t have 7 symbols, they have 8 symbols! Uber! And the bad guys are space vampires that beat up the ancients! Even the ultimate source of power (naquida sp?) from SG1 wasn’t good enough for Atlantis, they needed to come up with a new power source that I can’t remember the name of…but it’s UBER!

The music was pretty lousy as well. But I will keep watching and hoping.

Same thing here.  I thought "Oh ack, a show based on a movie. Forget it." And I only started watching a couple of seasons ago.

I was the same way. It wasn't until season 4 or so that I started watching. I'm not sure how I feel about movie-to-television transitions in general. Stargate and Buffy are two of my favorite series, but then there are things like Total Recall and Time Cop that just suck in too many ways to enumerate.

P.S. Am I the only one that is getting wildly variant displays of fonts? This Ariel size2 is freaking huge sometimes, but reasonable at others.

I'm sure all it will take is some good ole american know-how to kill off these vampires. I haven't got a chance to watch the show yet. I want to though. I'm a big fan of SG1. Atlantis looked pretty good. But I haven't been able to keep up on SG1 either since I really only get a chance to watch reruns from a couple seasons behind Sci-fi on my local channels. So I'm not entirely sure as to what events led up to them finding this city of the ancients. I need to at least watch the intro episode of Atlantis.

Actually it's an international team this time.
