Every so often I see someone say they're not going to blog anymore because they didn't get their articles featured to the home page or because there aren't enough comments on their blogs.

I think those people need to ask themselves why they're blogging in the first place.

Personally, I blog because I enjoy writing. I enjoy communicating with others.  And yes, I do want others to read what I write.  But I don't sit back and wait for some automated system to promote my stuff.  There are blog sites that simply track what's happening in the blogsphere.  Those people who are interested in getting their work out there need to do some leg work to promote their blogs.  Secondly, they need to keep at it for a long time.It takes time to build readership.

Anyone who thinks they can crank out a blog site and have hundreds of regulrar readers in a few months is in for disappointment.  Well, I should qualify, what makes JoeUser unique of all blog sites on the net is that many bloggers will get a very rapid readership. So JU is your best case scenario and even then, it's still going to take effort and time.

One of my favorite blog sites is called One Hand Clapping. It's been up for a long while. Every day high quality articles for years on end.  Many articles have few, if any comments.  But he keeps at it slowly building up his readership.

So before giving up, ask yourself why you're blogging. If you want to succeed it takes both time and effort. Don't be over reliant on the built in system to instantly generate an active readership.

Good article, I know as soon as I slack off for even 2 days my reader levels plunge. Consistency is key. That and constant self promotion.

That's why I'm here. Instead of answering proper emails (yeah, I know, I never do, either) you shilled your blog to me. And now, JU is stuck with me, too! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Agreeing with your article, I believe bloggers feel the need to post nonsense in order to achieve ratings, points, or what-have-you. Although I feel what I write can be considered trash to some. I write for the sake of writing, and it is not necessary that I make these thoughts public.... but the way I see it is.... Why not? I suppose it goes along with the concept of .... I'll show you mine if you show me yours.

Reading blogs is like resale shopping... you gotta dig through a lot of crap in order to get to the good stuff.

Cheers!

If you just sit around and wait for a following to develop...Good luck!

Your culture... I mean most poeple now days expect instant feedback. They want to be able to post and then have the coments spewing onto their webpage. Yet they end up watching the little number stay hopplessly stuck at zero. Its no wonder they are dishearted. I tend to be that way myeself. Dang I spend to much time on the computer. I love typing....Anyway I was saying

I have only recently frequented JU and am still feeling my way around.....at first I thought... "Excellent! A way to share with people what I am passionate about!!"....but I have found as in real life that other people are more interesting.....In day to day life and interactions with others I find I am of the tribe 'Question Asker' ....some come from the tribe 'Answer Giver'. Athough it's nice to think that others may find interesting what I have to say...as we all like to think that we do matter...I am finding it more interesting to see what you have to say as it broadens my vision and it is reassuring to know what others are thinking.....an insight into anothers mind is nothing to shrug at!
So, I look forward to knowing you all and having some memorable conversations!
