Bush and his finance ministers for the last several years have been routinely stating that the economy is fine and all these naysayers are just chicken littles.

Don't you even feel a little bit silly for making that claim just below a video that shows Bush's finance minister warning us about the possible crisis several years ago?

The nobody is at fault is a typical liberal fallacy. I hear it often. Would you say the same about a rape case? "everybody is equally to blame... yes he raped her... but she shouldn't have provoked him by dressing like a whore". Sounds wrong to you? that is because it IS. Sometimes someone IS at fault. OFTEN someone is at fault.

If you want to say that this video is wrong and it is not the democratic social engineering of giving poor people loans they could not afford that is at fault, than bring in a real example of how republicans caused it. Not vague accusations of "they beleive deregulation" or "everyone is equally corrupt". Give a concrete example, this movie is FULL of concrete examples.

Also... come on people... (to paraphrase Smoothseas, Artysim and some others) "sure the republicans warned about it and spoke against, but if they weren't totally corrupt they would have been more forceful about it, it is all their fault!" - Are you out of your fucking mind? Do you live in lala land or something?

Again, blame everything on the democrats. Clearly, every single thing that's wrong with the U.S has been caused by the democratic party, especially Jimmy Carter. Yes, ALL the problems we're experiencing today can all be traced back to that one term Jimmy served almost 30 years ago.

WAKE UP!!!!

Arty is right.  It is time to stop this silliness.  We should all BLAME CANADA!

on Sep 30, 2008

The video SPECIFICALLY said that Jimmy Carter managed to implement this lofty idea correctly, but that clinton took the working system and fubared it, and then lists specific individuals, including obama, 4 or 5 democrat senators, and two of obamas ministers as the specific individuals at fault.

So apperantly you lack verbal comprehension skills.

The original question is what caused the financial crisis and this video shows who (the Democrats) suported it or helped cover for Fannie....

Congress quoted him out of context to back every position they wanted from tax cuts to large spending increases when throughout his career he preached paying off the debt as the first priority.

He didn't really preach paying off the debt. He believed in keeping it low, but stated that the there would be a large desire for treasuries when the boomers started to retire. And his stance on tax cuts is that they are good as long as spending is cut also.

He very much got put into a position of being caught between a rock and a hard spot. Congress and the Bush admin pretty much turned a blind eye to every warning he made.

You should look for videos that aren't edited by partisan hacks. Then you will realize that there are people from both parties who carry some blame. One has to remember that Fannie and Freddie were mainly the secondary market for mortgages. It is other companies....mainly mortgage companies, that actually made the bad loans and then resold them to the GSE's. Electronically no less.

Give it a break...How far back do you want to go? One could argue that  Fannie  Mae became a mixed-ownership corporation in 1954 so maybe Ike is to blame. Its ludicrous what people try to claim but really what you need to do is look at your own Senators and Representatives very closely and see just how they may or may not have helped screw things up.  One thing I can say is that when I look at many of the things that have allowed this particular problem to occur there are not many politicians that don't have a reason to run for cover.

It is other companies....mainly mortgage companies, that actually made the bad loans and then resold them to the GSA's.

The GSAs were considered 'safe'; after all they were backed by the Federal Government and the GSAs were actively encouraging this.

Additionally, Franklin Raines said they were essentially fail proof and sound; as did many Democrats at the hearings noted earlier into Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac.

With that endorsement, why wouldn't companies move their packages through the GSAs?

Many people warned of the impending failure of what they saw as a financial house of cards; many people claimed there were no inherent problems with the way the GSAs and loans/mortgages were being handled.

Those warning of the impending failure were correct.

Those warning of the impending failure were correct.

There were warnings along time ago. But the fact is its both parties. There is no question FNMA was cooking the books when Raines was CEO but if you look at who they lobbied and who they gave campaign contributions to it involves both parties. He was cooking the books between 1998- 2004 when the republicans controlled both houses as well as the committees that pertained to them. The most money went to who was in power at the time so if you go back before 2006 you will see that GOP candidates were getting more until the dems were gaining control of congress. This is not a partisan thing. The deregulation that led up to the bubble was passed by both parties, a blind eye was cast by members of both parties, etc etc etc. None of the politicians raised an eyebrow before it was known that Fannie was ccoking the books, even though if you look at some of the OFHEO reports you will see that they were actually submitting reports as early as 2001 asking for more regulation and better insight.

Yeah! Evil elves made the Democrats say those things!

Can you show this?  Or are ya just saying it with out proof?

What are the odds that a liberal would say something as if it was a fact when in reality it is just his (and not even the majority of liberals') opinion?

Yeah! Evil elves made the Democrats say those things!

Evil Elves are a myth (have you never read Tolkein?).

They were Orcs.

Not sure who did what, but I can say when things started to get rough for my family. close to 3 years ago some decided it would be a great idea to increace minimum rate for credit card payment, which for the most part it was okay, you just pay it off faster. Great idea but then months later those credit card companies that did do the increase decided to go a little further and increase your rate. Mine alone went up monthly until it reached 11% increase. I did call and they claimed they cant lower it and of course I told them yes you can you just choose not to. They stopped the increase but only lowered it by 1 %.

Shortly after my property tax went up 2 years in a row and of course we all know about the gas price. My husband alone was paying 320.00 monthly and myself 245.00. Mine use to be about 120.00 and 160 for husband.

Food prices are jumping, one dollar  increases on someitems. We also had a big crack down on illegal immigrants and some up and left there homes. Now our electric has increased a good little chunk.

When you do a budget you dont expect to have so many surprises added in. My paycheck is by far not keeping up with all of this.

I dont know who created this maybe you all can fill me in but I just know somebody needs to fix this.
