I installed it, and it's great!  But I seem to have a very large problem. 

I switched the view setting off of align to grid.  I don't know if that had anything to do with what's happening, but thought you should know.  Anyway, the problem is this: the screen is "sort of" frozen.  I can use programs to some extent, but if I try to get out, it leaves the image up on my screen.  For example, when I minimize Firefox, it leaves the image on the screen.  It's not the actual program, just the image.  I guess I could reboot, but I dunno if that will be a permanent fix.

I don't know for sure that Fences is causing this, but it seems unlikely to be a coincidence.

Please help quickly!

What OS?  What servce pack?

Windows XP, with service pack 2, I believe.

EDIT-- I logged out of my account and back in, and it fixed it.  It's possible that it may only be temporary though.  Please post back if you have any info on the problem.

After creation of several Fences,
I would like to select only one or more (visible in the menu list with a right click) to restore them and only them with a double click on desktop.
All of the Fences restored with double click being too intrusive.
Apart from the snapshot I can't find solution.

Try putting the icons into the fences rather than put the fence on the icons...

If that's not the problem, it's likely a problem because you run a non standard installation (such as xplite, or other hack xp. Install SP3, if you can't, then you DEFINETELY have a borked XP).

If *that* is not the problem, you likely got something else that hooks onto the desktop/icons that conflicts with fences.

If it is a conflict, YOU need to figure out what the conflict is, and then tell about the problem. It'll be fixed eventually.

I see this being useless for me because, I have just been using the impulse dock to do the very same thing for a while now and it has been working great. But..what the hell? Why not give this a whirl.

After 2 minutes of playing with this program..I have reached the conclusion that it is awesome!

That's how I did it - created fences & dragged icons into them.  Oddly, the hiding function worked properly with the first public release.  There was an update within a couple of days of that first release, however, which resulted in this failure-to-hide behavior (it occurred with the first published update after the initial public announcement).  I was able to uninstall Fences, re-install from the first release download and it was fixed.  I stayed with the first release for awhile, but then one day after a reboot the icons failed to hide again, even with the original release.  So I've been updating to each new version as it comes along since.

I have a normal/standard XPP SP2 installation, no hacks.  Have chosen not to install SP3 for a couple of reasons.  Only thing that 'hooks into the desktop icons' I have is IP4 (4.10.177) & believe I've been at that version since before installing Fences.

I've been posting updated status replies here after installing new releases for the benefit of the devs - I haven't been able to identify a conflict and have limited ability to do so.

I tried Fences when it showed up on Impulse and really liked it. However, last night while moving some files on the desktop, it apparently caused Explorer to shut down. When Explorer started up again, Fences apparently crashed it. This led to a cycle of Explorer/Fences crashes that even a restart couldn't fix. Task Manager showed a max out of ram before each crash.

I finally managed to uninstall Fences via Impulse and things have finally stabilized once more. Since I'm already using Object Dock I think I'll just stick with that.

Actually you got it the wrong way around... It's folderview that looks alot like fences.

Are you sure about that ? When was the first version of Fences released ? I can't locate any relevant information, but the earliest references to Fences I've been able to find (version beta 0.96) come from February 2009. Meanwhile there are references to KDE3 Folderview from June 2008, such as this one:

Unless I'm missing something, Folderview also seems more flexible.
