2009 sucked. There. I said it. Deaths. Stress. It was just a bad year.

And I gained weight.  My ideal weight is 165lbs.  I’m now 180lbs.

My goal is to get to 170lbs in 10 weeks.

  1. 180
  2. 179
  3. 178
  4. 177
  5. 176
  6. 175
  7. 174
  8. 173
  9. 172
  10. 170

Each Monday I’ll weigh myself to see how I’m doing and update this post to display my shame (or progress).

Since it’s a pretty modest diet, here’s the basic plan:

  • Get 10,000 steps at least 5 days a week.
  • Eliminate drinking soda 5 days a week.
  • Switch from P&J to healthier lunches

Pretty mild stuff.  But 10,000 steps should burn about 2500 more calories a week and the soda another 500 calories. That should be enough to lose that pound a week – especially when my non-binging weight is around 176.  It should be pretty easy to get to 175lbs. It’ll be the last  5 pounds that get a little tougher.

Once to 170lbs, I’ll see where to next.

Didn't you write something like this last year?

I had the same idea as you last year  and am just about the same weight as I was then although I've lost about 2 lbs since November and I think it's playing pickleball and tennis that's helping me to keep it off even thru the holidays.  I'm starting to figure out that playing these racquet sports are helping me feel better (and sore)  since they burn a ton of calories. I'm also fitting into my clothes easier as I'm starting to tone different muscles outside of the running which I've been doing for decades.

So I guess for me it's to continue playing these racquet type sports along with my running.  As you get older, you have to work a bit harder at keeping the weight off.  Wait till you reach age 45.

I believe there are 3500 calories per pound, so you'll be off by 500 calories per week, but it's pretty close.

Don't know if you've ever read the Hacker's Diet, but I found it to be a great resource when it came to losing weight, with a few minor modifications of my own (lost 50 so far, going for one more block of 50, at around two a week).
