Generating about 2.5MWh per month in power. Far more than I use. DTE buys the excess energy at 11 cents per KWh.

The fact that you're electricity independent is a huge plus. That means you're not burning gas or oil, and all that entails. Wonder what the difference between the 'buy from' and 'sell to' rate is per KWh. My feeling is that you should get the same rate for the electricity you generate as they pay for the electricity they buy from other sources.
well, they don't charge you for using their infrastructure to lug your juice to them. (or they charge you by paying less.. effectively)
do you have some whacking big energy storage that allows you to store and use the energy at night that you generated during the day? (ie.. they effectively charge you for acting as your battery)
i think in the uk, selling solar back to elec companies is basically gov subsidised (and the subsidy was slashed a while back when lots of people signed up for it or some such.. i think.)
the way it works (mostly) is that they (the installer? companies / energy companies?) install their equipment on your roof. it's not yours.. and there's some sort of contract for X years or some such.

I can see how Sweden would have terrible solar power... Though, Michigan isn't anywhere near one of the best places in the US for solar power either.

Yes....much the same has happened in Oz.....
There's even mutterings about dumping the Star-rating requirements for new home designs....[energy efficiency]....apparently cos it's too much fuss and red tape....
....and that's from an eff-wit Premier who's supposedly an Architect.
How about putting a big solar array in space and dropping a power line so we can all plug in?
