Multiplicity 2 was released today.

You can get it here:

Here’s a video of it in action:

What makes Multiplicity special isn’t that it’s the first program ever that can enable users to use multiple computers at once. You can get a digital switch to do that and heck, there’s freeware out there that will let you use a keyboard and mouse to move back and forth between computers.

Instead, what makes Multiplicity unique is in the execution.  It’s designed to make your local machines function as a single unit.  So, for instance, you can drag and drop files smoothly from one machine to another. You can copy and paste images and formatted text between machines.

It’s also about how easy it is to set up. You just pretty a few keys one each machine to get it going and you’re ready to go. The configuration process is seamless.

If you’re a laptop user with a main work or home machine, you’ve probably had your share of emailing a document from one machine to another.  Here at work, we often have one machine for “content creation” and they’ll want to have their laptop next to it that they use for chatting, web browsing, email, etc. And often they’ll want to be able to quickly move back and forth between them, copying and pasting between them, etc.

If you have two PCs that are near each other, give it a shot:

Interesting, will have to give this a test drive.  I am currently Remote Desktopping between 5 computers throughout the week (attempting to cut back, quitting is hard ).  Does this work with machines across a VPN?

Side note, have you seen Project Octopus?

It should, but bear in mind, the machines need to be physically close to you since you're relying on their displays (it's not streaming video).

Re VMWare, yes, very excited about that.

I installed yesterday evening and immediately ran into troubles.  I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 bit with UAC enabled.  If a function brings up a UAC alert box, my cursor disappears so I can't see to click on the continue button.  Uninstalling multiplicity (I had to guess where the cursor was to answer the alert box) immediately fixed the problem.  I should add I'm running the latest paid version of CursorFX.  I'm used to the UAC temporarily resetting the cursor back to the normal Windows cursor but at least I can still track it.

Needless to say, I did not fully configure Multiplicity before uninstalling.  I'd love to use this product but am at a loss how to get around the invisible cursor.

I forgot to mention that when the Multiplicity dialog is running, it shuts down Google Chrome.

Scratch my post.  Turned out the problem was caused by the AVG toolbar it installed without my noticing.  That's also what shutdown Chrome.  I reinstalled, skipped that step and it apears to be stable.  Now I just need to actually configure out.
