Brad Wardell's views about technology, politics, religion, world affairs, and all sorts of politically incorrect topics.

Sometimes I’ll hear someone marvel at how amazing it is that humans have been able to adapt from hunting and gathering to the information age so well in just 10,000 years.  Of course “so well” is subjective.  In reality, as a species, we’re struggling with it. A lot.

Most of my friends who are, let’s say, economic peers of mine, suffer from a surprisingly consistent set of brain demons as I do.  The brain demons giveth and taketh.  I suspect many of you reading this know exactly what I’m talking about.  Intelligence really can be a bitch.  I am still not convinced that the whole “getting out of the trees” thing was a good move for us.

If you’re reading this and are suffering, know you’re not alone.  You’re amongst friends here. You might even be surprised of how many of people you know are with you in struggling against afflictions that seem explicitly created to torment the 21st century human psyche.

And then, if you're a redneck, like me, you're totally lost and have no idea what Brad just said....

certainly wasn't a good move for the earth... i.e. environment and other species...

There are some that would say if humanity turned around they would still see the entrance to the cave.

It had to happen sooner or later, we're cutting them all down.

There never was a choice...the advantages of intelligence are there, when applied with humanity.

... humanity, grace, humility, that "do unto others as you would have them do unto you".  compassion.

Barb. You mirrored my thoughts exactly.

You can take the man out of the cave...but you'll never take the cave out of the man. I've always found it funny how we refer to ourselves as civilized when we're anything but that. Just look at how we treat the helpless and weak...when you think about it...we never left the caves...we just put on different cloths. There are very few people responsible for our advancements...the rest of us are just riding along. Take away all these so-called advancements and we're only a few steps away from the front of the cave.

When did that happen?   lol

   Tree hugger.

And some people bring the trees to their house.

And last but not least.    Unless you have a headache.  Where's that tree house?

After re-reading the title and considering the content of the OP, I'm guessing you're having trouble with trolls, and assorted Internet jerks again?

In all candor, given humanities' collective and individual expertise in using our awesome intelligence ('wise apes') to rationalize decisions that are often truly horrid - I wonder.  We have the capability to ascend (metaphorically) to the heights of heaven and to the depths of Sheol.  Yet I think the jury is still out as to whether a high intelligence is truly a benefit to the long term survival of 'us.'

Can trolls climb trees?

BTW, I am not so sure we hunter gather types have really adopted to this post industrial info age.  It seems to me, that for many, we have created an emotionally toxic culture.  But that's for another thread...

Intelligence doesn't matter; we are trapped in our universe and when the universe ends, so do we. The only difference between us and animals is, that we are aware that we're trapped.
