Friday night fun at the office

The team is busily working on v1.1.  I thought I'd show you some screenshots of what we've got done so far.  Probably a beta of this will be made public next week.

March 18, 2006:

The 3 features here we think will make people happy. Still tweaking the wording.

But basically you'll have control over whether tech trading is allowed. Blind exploration means you don't get to see the influence of a civilization until you've explored sectors that they're in. And minor races control whether they're in the game or not.

A couple things new on the ship design screen. First, you can now rotate components on the fly in the X, Y, and Z axis.  Pretty excited about that. You can even resize components after the fact once they're on. You can also rotate them after the fact.

What you can't see in the screenshot is that you can now pan with the left-click drag so managing much larger ships is much easier now. It should really free up how ships are made.

Sick of messing with what's in a given tile? The Fleet Manager is a whole new screen designed to let you organize what's in a particular tile. Still a work in progress.

The updates to shipyard design is great.

The problems with jewelry alignment seems more related to the jewelry bits themselves. Some of the pieces (like wing panels, the indented wall piece, etc) are off-centre, and placing them on 'opposite' hardpoints won't result in identical placement.

I amsure it is covered in another thread somewhere. . . but what is the problem with tech trading and why would you want to dissable it?

As a consumer and avid gamer, I sing Stardock's praises to the rafters!

As a conscientious human being, I wonder whether we all owe apology checks to the StarDock design team's families, pets, and friends!!

The work ethic--continuing to offer such fast-coming and hard-hitting improvements--in the wake of such a commerically successful initial release is almost unheard of. Hats off to you guys to continuing to enhance a 1st-rate product.

Being able to upgrade from the Fleet Management window would be a BIG addition.

You guys rock!

Outstanding job guys PLZ keep up the good work

Please add a line in the ship designer that says how many logistc points the ship will use. For me, that is the single most important attribute of a ship design.
on Mar 19, 2006
Wow. I would have to say that Stardock is the best games company on earth.

Pls remove the stupid launching of the ship! Launching it to the bottom of the planet give the players at the top of the screen more advantage as they can move the ship downwards faster than those players at the bottom of the screen which have to move their ship upward. 2 solutions available, 1 to remove launching and let ship fly out of planets in any direction, the other let players select launch direction. Of course, the first solution is simple and better and less troublesome.

Also inceases the number of tiles on a plannet and a bit more bonus as there are simply too much to build, like farm, economic, starport, research, influence, entertainment, ...usually more than 1 of a type is build too.

And pls most people still using up to 1280x1024 resolution monitors on desktop, so can make thing less bulky like the planets page should have more item visible on the Queue list. Also the Research page can show less bulky item on top and the tech tree below smaller pic inside to see more items. Really a lot of tweaking needed so as to fit in more things and make it more viewable and friendly.

Some people dont like the "run away" tec tradeing that goes on in the game, Bascialy one of the ways to win the game is to not build a single reasurch facility (Build factories or entertainment or money or influence generators instead) and just sit their and buy tecks from the other AIs or trade them with the other players

Wow, that all looks wonderful! I would like one tiny option. I like to have my ship designs loaded with aeverything on them so I can change out the weapons and such one by one. I guess that was switched in the last patch.... but maybe we could have an option as to wether custom ships we bring up to edit/upgrade as "fully loaded", or as it is now. Maybe it could be selectable in game options or on the main ship building screen. Overall, it looks great!

My three biggest questions about the additions would be (in order of importance):
1) Can we still follow the whole path of trade routes into the fog of war on blind exploration mode? These routes can reveal unscouted planets.
2) As someone else mentioned, can we upgrade from the fleet manager?

three? can you count?

panning with a left click on the ship design!?! you f***ing reach my mind. and rotating pieces too. only other thing i'd request is separate x/y/z resizing. and since you're all ready messing with the minor races, why not just make a slider for them? maybe not a stright number, but a % of unpopulated planets that will have minor civs, and the likelyhood new ones will show up. just a thought, since you're all ready working on the feature (i know it wouldn't fit nicely into your set up screen based on the screenshot).

anyway, i'm not trying to sound demanding or ungrateful. i just have a lot of ideas, but i'll have to save them fora suggestion post. I'm really looking forward to the new patch! besides the fact that this game is awesome, StarDock seems really great. there are several game studios out there that make quality products, but i rarely get the sense that their business model is so heavily influenced by love of videogaming. um, yes, that is all.

One curiosity though... I like where 1.1 is going, but unless I missed it, what happened to "stealth" technology that was present in both the original OS/2 game, and GalCiv 1. I would like to add a "cloaking" device to my ships.. What better way to greet an unfriendly neighbor that decloaking an armada next to his fleets, and poof, bye fleets! Or having a cloaked AWACS type ship to scout around and plan your inva, er liberation your enemies worlds... Any Thoughts?
