Friday night fun at the office

The team is busily working on v1.1.  I thought I'd show you some screenshots of what we've got done so far.  Probably a beta of this will be made public next week.

March 18, 2006:

The 3 features here we think will make people happy. Still tweaking the wording.

But basically you'll have control over whether tech trading is allowed. Blind exploration means you don't get to see the influence of a civilization until you've explored sectors that they're in. And minor races control whether they're in the game or not.

A couple things new on the ship design screen. First, you can now rotate components on the fly in the X, Y, and Z axis.  Pretty excited about that. You can even resize components after the fact once they're on. You can also rotate them after the fact.

What you can't see in the screenshot is that you can now pan with the left-click drag so managing much larger ships is much easier now. It should really free up how ships are made.

Sick of messing with what's in a given tile? The Fleet Manager is a whole new screen designed to let you organize what's in a particular tile. Still a work in progress.

'But basically you'll have control over whether tech trading is allowed.'

Thank you! I suck at tech trading!

Looking forward to all the new ship design features I spend about the same amount of time plyaing the game as I do designing the ships. It's a great creative outlet! One thing I'd like to see is a way to single out a hardpoint (getting a piece on that sphere or any other component with lots of hardpoints next to each other, exactly where you want it, can be challenging to say the least). Also, if there was someway we can build a "part" (let's say an arm like that robot ship) then attach it to the ship later, that'd be helpful as well I think (as well as being able to save that "part" and cut+paste).

I second the cloack technology add, maybe on expansion or something, though i would like it sooner and free

Also, the fleet manager for me is the BIGGEST addition yet, but as some1 said , upgrading from the fleet manager would be awsome too. I think being able to select a rally point for a newly formed fleet would also be cool to have on the fleet manager, kinda like Fleet Rally Point or something like that. Anyways , YOU GUYZ ROCKK!!!!!

how about using the Fleet Manager to manage the whole galaxy, so you open the FM window and in the bottom right you have the galaxy map that shows you the postions of all the fleets and single ships and highlights the current selected fleet/ship on the map ,from this window all ships can be located and told to group up into a fleet at your requested destination. also from the FM window you have control over all ships that are located on planets. so ships dont need to be on the same square to join into a fleet they can be anywhere and on any planet. and remember that the map will give you the location of your selected ship so when creating fleets you can select ships that are near by or if need be far away. this has to be done as managing hundreds of ships is a slow process.

Just one word AWESOME!!!!

I love what you folks at Stardock are doing. Keep on doing it! One complaint I have is in the manual. It says we can get a hyperion Fleet Manager which makes all planets automatically have a fleet manager. I have used the "Research All" cheat and I have not been able to build this. Was it accidentally left out? Also, I would appreciate maybe a "super Projects/Galactic Acheivements/ Trade Goods " list on the Civ Manager. This way you can find that silly manufacturing capital without having to look through each individual planet. Or maybe just a filter parameter that shows all planets with X on them. Personall, on a gigantic galaxy with everything abundant and you own 75% of it, finding things is very hard!

But all that could just be wishful thinking, I'm just glad you guys are kind enough to do great updates at all.

Agreed with the first quote.

The second quote, the capital cities has a small flag on there that you can easily identify them on the map.

Oops. But still, if you get the Hyperion Fleet Manager, the filter would be nice for the finding and decomissioning/upgrading of all existing fleet managers.

Can we have options to give more life to the minor civs? To let them colonize, fight, invade and take over planets...

I have actually had that happen in a game. The Paulos (sp?) have around 4 or 5 planets in their empire.

I know I,ve gone on about this before but ORGANIC looking ships like the dread lords and farscape look so cool it would make my year if we could have some kind of upgrade that would give some new ship styles with organic as one of the designs. if that were to happen you would have my eternal gatitude.

Probably they get these planets from another race or won them through war because they can't colonize.I also think that minors are too weak in this game. With no tech trading option enabled they will be a lot weaker. At least an option where minors can colonize their star system or a cap of 4-5 planet max to colonize could be implemented

Me too would like to join the lobby for bonscott's idea about ship upgrade - please, let us only replace items on the ship, do not give us the bare "skeleton" when upgrading

Iam truly looking forward to the 1.1 release, I can't wait already to try out those new improvements. What can I say, you guys are just making a superb game even better

I don't know if this was mentioned before, but what I would like to see would be a separate program that you can run outside of the game that will allow you to design ships. I think that game about the movie stars did that with the characters in the game. This way you could maybe design a ship while you were bored at work or other times when you are not actively playing the game. That would be cool.
