Here is what is new in Galactic Civilizations v1.11 over 1.1:

+ New AI option - allow AI to use more CPU. Not used yet but will be in future builds.

+ Civ homeworlds are set when loading a saved game.

+ AI (some of them) less reactionary to influence concerns (i.e. won't likely build as many embassies)

+ AI pickier about trading weapons techs

+ AI sensitive to player going for tech victory

+ AI designs ships more often (this will be further refined in the future)

+ Some text string changes

+ Double clicking on a a ship in the stacked ships list will now open the planet screen

+ Can no longer steal techs that belong to a different ethical alignment

+ Re-designed the save and load game systems to be much faster and use a lot less memory (only works on NEW games)

+ Strategic view updates better on loading a saved game

+ Players can now sort by social production on Civ manager

+ Confirmation dialog added on retire option

+ Fixed bug where movement points in a fleet get miscalculated after the battle

+ Tweaks to CalcMilitaryMight to be a better judge of what a strong military really is

+ Civ Abilities recalculated quicker so that various trades and such have a more immediate effect.

+ Research screen remembers what sort list you chose

+ Victory Status tells player how many civs they've conquered

+ Lots of small tweaks and performance enhancements.

+ Neutrality Learning Centers will automatically take over (upgrade from) Research Academies

+ Some research oriented techs are more expensive

The main goal of this build is to resolve the memory issues that some people had with 1.1.  The main cause of the memory issue was due to our heavy use of caching which could result in a LOT of memory being used. For people who had enough memory, life was good. But for people who ran out, it was bad. This build should have the performance advantages of 1.1 but use far less memory.

While you can use previously saved games, we recommend starting with new games so that you get the most out of it.  I also made some tweaks to the computer AI.

I have to admit I'm impressed by the frequency of these updates as well the quality of them... Really glad I got this game, I wish you guys every success

Is the issue where no construction or research is done for the first turn and the influence borders don't get set all the way our for the first two turns after loading a saved game fixed yet? Those were the ones I found the most annoying.

Oh and as long as we're giving our two cents too, a way to unobsolete ships would be nice for a future patch. Or at least a confirmation dialog in case you accidentall click the obsolete button like I do all too often.

(I haven't played for a few weeks so I might be behind on the previous patches.)

The learning centers are still bugged... yes they upgrade from research academies, but what if you research invention matrix or discovery spheres before them? (hint, i know what happens, they upgrade into the wrong path).

Even if you research learning center immidiatly after research academies and before invention matrix or discovery sphere (ie, they will upgrade correctly) you still have both research structures on the planetary improvement construction options list (and you have to research it for tech victory/omega research center)
Thanks for the expediate patching, you guys rock!

I'm a software developer. I've worked in Win32, various Unixes (Linux, Solaris, MacOSX), old MacOS and even worked on a NeXT cube for a while.

Lemme say this with all honesty and clarity: They all handle memory very similarly and there's very little difference between them when you start using anything but assembly languages. Once you get to a high-level language (Like C), they're all nearly identical.

I can (and have) screwed up memory allocation in nearly every OS and they're all about as easy to do it with. End of story.

Upgrade is always cool . Anyway, you guys are evil. Think of all tensions in families you cause.

And as for system discussion... Why all those nice features of Win-family eat so much memory? Why once in awile it's impossible to kill what you've installed? and so on. But main concern is security. Why one needs to pay so much to third party to insure privacy? On top of that, MS really abuses their position as monopolist. Unfortunately for gaming junkies Win will be a standart for years to come.

How about the custom playlist PLEASE????

That less reactionary to influence concerns thing, sounds bad. Influence is already a much too easy way to get around conflict, taking some of the challenge out of the game.
The rest sounds cool look forward to try it

Can I use this on the collectors edition version?
on Oct 25, 2006
The CE is no different codewise than the normal version, so you can use any patch (though you should use the latest patch, 1.4X. Not sure why you dug up this ancient 1.1 thread to ask your question).

I ask cause I'm new to the metaverse. I only bought the game a couple months ago.

How do I get the 1.40 patch to work when I don't have internet at the house for it to load?

To activate the game on a computer that is not connected, follow these steps:

1) Start the game; you will get a prompt for your serial and email. Provide them and continue.
2) It will fail to activate (of course) and ask if you'd like to activate by email. Click Yes.
3) Copy the subject line and big block of letters into a text file, or into your email program, and save it off to portable media (CDR, USB drive, floppy, etc).
4) Take it to a web-connected PC and send an email to activate@stardock.com with that subject line and content.
5) You should receive a reply with a file and some instructions; take the file back to the non-connected PC and you should be set to go.
