0108081126 For those people who have been wanting to jump into high definition video viewing on their fancy new HD televisions but didn't want to have to pick between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray can pick up LG's new "Super Blu" (BH200).

It's a bit pricey at $999 but for those who want to jump in now but don't want to be the owner of Betamax v2, it's the first dual player of its kind.

LG also had a ton of really other cool things to show that I wish I could give them all adequate attention.  A wireless television set was one of the more interesting displays. With built in 802.11N, it can handle wireless high definition streams without a problem.

Great idea for a combo player, but I think I will have to wait for a price drop.

$999???

$399 for a PS3 - Blue ray
$349 for xbox 360
$180 for xbox hd dvd player
-----
$928 - AND I get 2 kick-a$$ game systems!

Im actually trying to determine if i want to buy the PS3 for its blue-ray or just get a stand alone player, now that the war (HD DVD/Blue-ray war, not the other one) is over i think Blue-ray is all we need now. Anyone have any suggestions on a player vs PS3??

In the UK, the BH-200 is about £850

PS3 is £300

My combo:-
Blu-ray: Sony BDP-S300 £250 + boxed sets of Spiderman & Pirates of the Carribean (about £80 worth)
HD-DVD: Toshiba HD-EP30 £180 + 2 discs in the box + 5 more online (about £120 worth)

No contest really

Player vs PS3? A PS3 has a noisy fan, not good when you are watching a movie

thanks fuzzy, any ideas on a good player? under the price of the PS3?

The one I have is fine, the Sony BDP-S300. The picture is sharp and clean with no artifacts. Sound is equally impressive - DTS is an eye opener, and DD 5.1 is pretty good too.

The only downside is the long time it takes for discs to load compared to more expensive players. Not really a problem if it's picture and sound quality you're more interested in. It doesn't bother me.
You'll most likely need a firmware update to play the latest DVDs - involves downloading a file from the website and burning the iso to a CD-ROM. I found I needed this when Independance Day wouldn't play...

If you are going HD, then the Toshiba HD-DVD is better in this respect as it has a LAN port - just plug and go!
