A world broken in two

The continent of Cartagia was broken into two at the climax of the titanic war between “the powers” in what became known as the cataclysm. From this we now have what the inhabitants simply refer to as “the west” and “the east”.

When the world was broken, all was laid waste and much lore was lost. In the time that became known as the “War of Magic”, we saw Channelers begin to return and carve out kingdoms.

During the War of Magic, the world was again largely split between the Kingdom of Altar in the west and the Empire of Magnar in the east. The near millennium migration of Men going westward and Fallen going eastward made the War of Magic largely unavoidable.

Once the Henge had been crossed, it was only a matter of time before both races would strive for dominion over the whole of Cartagia. This is told in more detail Elemental: War of Magic

so this is the official world eh?     hmmm.     Makes me wonder how the single player campaign is going to play out.

(it doesn't look like there is more than one master of magic style   *tear*  )

Well, when you play the sandbox game you make your own world and can import your own mods and mods created by others.  But in the campaign, the goal is to tell the story from the perspective of both Men and Fallen.

Wait a minute so men and fallen are arch-enemies? I realize fallen are typically categorized as "evil" and men are generally "good" but I thought they would still ally with each other to fight other fallen/men depending on the situation. I would have guessed the battle lines for this "second cataclysm" would be largely based on geographic resources / shards instead of a Cold War esk East vs West set up. I don't have a particular problem with the Cold War schema but I wouldn't have guessed it would be in this game. When you go back far enough after all men and fallen are kin and the Cold War meets Civil War type of situation is a tiny bit odd if you ask me.

Would love the campaign to be presented through the sandbox* at our own leisurely pace!

*So one and same...maybe have a check box to activate or de-active the story related events/quests.

I want to build a wall circling the whole continent!

Actually hiddenrabbit has a good idea

Thats one of the features that i loved the most about the wonderful game Alpha Centauri. Certain features where on the randonly generated map f.x. The Saragossa Sea etc. Certain tecs opened up more of the backgrouund story. Its kinda like the sandboxy feel of the diablo games (f.x. the butcher) where you either looked forward to discovering certain familiar places or feared and prepared for them. The experiences where then a common knowlegde between you and your friends that you could talk about at other times thereby creating more willingness to have another go at the game together.

East against West is always a very fun idea.

I like it.

Hey, it looks like you have your campaign all set to go.  I'll pre-order this as soon as I buy a house so I can get in on the beta.

Yeah! Imagine playing multiplayer with a friend, one as men, one as the fallen. Each one of us unites their race, then at last comes the ultimate epical superwar between the two of us.... yummy!

What a grand multiplayer experience it might be.

Great,

*** BUT ***

Almost all the world in this map is linked by land, except for the small landmass in the middle. Can we be reassured that in Sandbox games the AI will be comfortable with using boats and islands. ... ?

Cool! ... Is it ok to beg for ingame yet?

East versus West, huh? it's a cliche... but a good one at least.

Draginol you have been officially nominated as the cartographer of the party.

As for me I aim to make a personal empire on that Island named Switzerland and then make bunches of money financing the ongoing west vs. east mega war. or perhaps I would control the credit to make it a constant war between the different city states controlled by the channelers... oh the possibilities!

I'm pretty sure, but it would be nice to hear it from a developer.

As if every game in the past with bad naval use hasn't said they got it to work anyway...
