Brad Wardell's views about technology, politics, religion, world affairs, and all sorts of politically incorrect topics.

While the vast majority of users who actually have Beta 1Z voted for moving forward (the publicly displayed poll isn’t designed to filter based on downloads but rather whether they have an Impulse account) we believe another Beta 1 is still in order.

There are some Windows XP issues we want to nail down in particular with regards to stability and memory and there were a bunch of fixes that got finished that didn’t get checked in in time for beta 1Z3.

We are probably going to dispense with the polling unless I can get IT to spend time to filter out users who don’t actually have the beta (incidentally, the votes include the user ID and the IP address for the guy who put in 11 no votes with the same IP with different accounts, tsk tsk).

The forum discussions alone were enough to convince me that one additional beta 1 build made sense.

It IS important, however, that anyone who experiences problems report them. Don’t assume that we know about them. Read this post.

Oh damn...I haven't visited that link for ages....I didn't know that the polls will be hosted there. I guess I will visit that link on a daily basis from now on.

Me too. Makes me want a poll on how many folks missed that poll.

Ha ha yeah, I currently only visit the site when the rss feed tells me there's a new dev journal up.. so I didn't see that poll either

I don't know if my forum account is even linked to my impulse account. I didn't use the same name, but I don't think I ever visited the /journals page.

How about adding support for polls directly to Impulse instead? That way developers with impulse can release polls to their userbase on just about anything. "How do you feel the latest patch is working."

Actually it'd also make a neat feature for Impulse:Reactor for game devs to be able to leave announcements and polls for their users there.

Can we at least get another map?

Too close to making the beta fun. Your eyes shall be made to bleed for your affrontery!

No.

I think another Z is prudent.  Stability is greatly improved for me in Z3 (I got to 1000+ turns in a game finally!) but I'm still seeing too many CTDs, Freezes, Windows Crashes, and an OutOfMemory.  Plus things like houses disappearing when cities upgrade.

Fast is slow and slow is fast.  The best way to get Elemental finished ASAP is going slow now.

I'm glad to hear a Windows_XP system is being used for testing at Stardock.  The current build seems to crash often for my Windows_XP_64Bit  system.  I noticed beta testing is 32Bit...  when will the 64Bit beta testing begin?

Glad to see another beta.

In the typical games I am amongst the happy few who encounter next to no problems - for example Empire: Total War seems to have been a huge bugfest when it came out, I never had anything but a stable game... - but  here I am amongst the few who have not even played a single game in 1z3. The game crashes at at creating a new world and it consistently does so. With this in mind I am pro anything that makes me get a few turns in in the new beta.

I am not sure if Windows XP 64 is a supported system for Elemental. It is clearly not supported for Impulse.

x64 XP is a horrible OS....and I am not kidding.

XP 64 is an unsupported OS, for both Elemental and Impulse.

I really can't figure out why people run that on a gaming machine, it was only intended for use by driver developers and in high end computing situations that needed the extra RAM capacity in a client OS before Vista came out. Microsoft doesn't even really support it anymore now that there won't be new service packs for Windows Server 2003 (which is the same code that XP 64 is based on).

I also missed the poll.  Seems there are a lot of active beta users that missed the poll, making it much less valid.

My favorites link goes right to the forums, I don't mess around in the rest of this website much.  Probably better to have the poll in the forum or email out to those that are in the beta only.

Glad you decided to go to 1Z4 despite the poll, because I would have voted not ready yet.  Still to many crashes and loading problems for multiplayer.

I had no idea about that poll, either.  Could we humbly request to get a notice about an important poll like this in the Developers' Journal?

After Z4, I imagine things should be pretty stable.  How exciting!
