As I mentioned last month, I started monitoring our energy usage very closely.

It turned out we had two key areas that were running away with power.  The first was keeping the pool room warm. That was costing us a fortune. And by warm I mean like 80 degrees (it’s supposed to be about the same temp as the water).  The other was the recirculating hot water which was using a lot of gas.

Using this knowledge and making lots of other adjustments, I cut our energy bill by 45% this past month! W00t.

Wow, I pay £37 a month for gas and £33 a month for electric, and I thought that was expensive...

That includes the house being at 22°C and a 8'x6' greenhouse heated to 6°C by electric fan.

$800-$900 a month? USD?

I could cover all my expenses with that... and I've seen apartments where with one roommate $189.89 would fit the rent bill.

Wow, I want you guyses bills.  There was a problem with the gas and how I was charged. Even though they deny it.  Oh, and I forgot to mention a new roof. Those metal ones. Sorry for not knowing the tech terms. In the summer, the bill is $50. / $75. Which to you folks, I guess that would still be alot. CheezWhiz

"To protect the algae, we should eliminate their predators.
So...we can chop down the rainforests to make nice coffee tables, but only if we kill the whales."

Hate to be a bubble burster but Whales eat Krill or Plankton, not Algae, so lets leaves the Whales out of this massacre ok.

Heavenfall
Trying to consume less electricity is just another phrase for GODLESS COMMUNISM.

Next you'll be rounding up all the minorities for the camps.

Have you even begun to think what a slippery slope you are on?

Yeah!!! Next thing he'll support social security reforms.

We need to save the rainforest to protect oxygen-breathers like people.
If we can't save the rainforest, we should protect the algae, which produce most of the oxygen.
To protect the algae, we should eliminate their predators.
So...we can chop down the rainforests to make nice coffee tables, but only if we kill the whales.

Nope, mucking up the water is a bigger problem for algea that whales are. So we can polute the air or the water, but not both. Of particular note is the junk that is used in farming that gets washed into the rivers by the rain (though there are other things, they are just not as consistant about occuring).
