I can’t believe Fall is here.  I think I missed a month, at least! So before everything has changed, I took some pictures. Leaving work.    We picked apples to make into Apple Sauce and Apple crisp. Delicious!   Backup Power Generator.   Solar Array. Walls leading to house. Polaris Ranger EVs. We use these to work with the apple trees and bee hives and garden area. ...

My wife is addicted to Christmas.  And so this year we decided to line the trees up the drive way with Christmas lights.

I'm on vacation officially though in reality according to my journal I still managed 30 hours last week here at the cottage. My online availability has been diminished a bit (i.e. not browsing the sites much). Here some pictures from the trip.

Whether you have a damp basement or crawl space or a house that has a lot of wood in it, there are times you may need a dehumidifier. A dehumidifier is similar to a refrigerator in many respects except that it takes the condensed water it collects and puts it into a tray or out a hose. A typical house starts to feel rather muggy if the humidity gets over 65%.  In my case, I have a cottage that has wood floors, wood walls, and a crawl space.  I will ultimately end up getting ...

So I bought a cottage on the lake. The cottage on there is kind of crummy so we're designing a new one to tear down what's on there and build. The gotcha is that the lot is skinny. It's only 55 feet wide (200 feet deep).  So the house has to take that into account with 10 feet of space on each side (so we're talking about a 35 foot wide house. So here's the lower floor as we try to find ways to squeeze it into 35 feet.  My wife really wants an out door bathroom so that kids w...

As I watch my two little boys playing out in the snow, I feel a certainty at the core of my being of why I was born. Why I was put on this earth.  To be a dad.  Being a dad is what I'm best at. It is what I love doing and being more than anything else in the world (other than being a husband to my wife).  There is nothing I'd rather be than the dad of my two sons.

Only a little boy would think this way.. I caught my son picking his nose and eating it. Disgusting! I don't know why small children are such nasty creatures. "That's disgusting! Do you realize how disgusting that is? Eating boogers is as bad, if not worse, than eating poop. Do you know that? Boogers are the trapped germs of your body trying to get out. They're absolutely filthy. Poop, amazingly, is actually cleaner than boogers. That's how disgusting that is!" To which he responds: ...

I get threats of various kinds pretty frequently. Sometimes it's because they really dislike my political points of view. Others because they are mad because I moderated one of their posts.   And other times they just plain hate me for reasons that I cannot even begin to fathom. But I get enough of these that I have to take them seriously. When I was younger and had more free time (and a lot dumber) I'd call their bluff. I'd tell them "Go ahead, make my day, coward."  I've met ...

And so on this Christmas eve I share with you all my own narrow judgmental take on how life should be. Today's topic, lame people on Christmas. Are you a Christmas lamer? Here are the signs: 10) You didn't send Christmas cards out this year. 9) You did send Christmas cards out but as emails. 8) You justified 9 or 10 because you were "so busy" this year (as opposed to everyone else) 7) Your "Christmas shopping" consisted of going to one big store (ala Target or Walmart or something...

Today is the 10-year anniversary of the day Debbie and I got married. I can't believe it. It's been such a fun and wonderful time for us. Looking back on those 10 years.. Once upon a time… When I met Debbie, it was explosive. Literally. We were in EE 221 lab together at Western Michigan University. We were building a power supply. My power supply would have worked perfectly except for one crucial misstep: my circuit didn’t include a resistor which, coupled with 110 volts created a small fi...
