tagline for the expansion
Published on May 29, 2006 By Draginol In GalCiv Journals

One of the nice things about being an indie title that isn't incredibly mainstream is that you can do things that wouldn't necessarily appeal to the casual player.

For instance, the expansion pack for GalCiv II has gotten its features, story, plot, etc. mapped out now.  We'll talk about that more soon.

But it will contain a campaign and it will be dark. Very dark.  Two of the major civilizations in GalCiv II will be wiped out. Eliminated. You'll still be able to play them in GalCiv II but come GalCiv III, they won't exist. Eradicated.  Individuals of the two races may still exist and show up in GalCiv III but as playable races, their histories will come to an end.

Two new civilizations will be introduced in the expansion pack which will have the native ability to make use of planets that the others can't use without research (the expansion will introduce the concept of special planet types that can't be colonized until you've researched the appropriate environment technology). A third civilization will be added too which  will act as the main villain (well, of course the Drengin are villains too but, well you'll see).

And if you think the blood thirsty Drengin are bad with their desire to enslave all the galaxy as "slavelings", there are worse things than the Drengin and we're not talking about the Dread Lords.

Up near the top, there was talk about some races having Innate ablitys beyond stat boosts. My question is, how do custom races fit into this? For example, my custom, The Umbrael Sentience, is a mecanical race similar, (but philishopicly opposed to) the Yor Collective. I should be able to give them similar attributes as to Yor. Will I be able to?

I hope so...

why not turn them into a minor race?

Or, even better..... The Dread Lords aren't actually dead.... We just thought the humans killed them all.... Whmaa haa haa haa.

I reckon the Arceans and the Thallans should be gotten rid of. The Arceans because they look silly and the Thallans, because I doubt anyone has played them (and I will now probably be proven wrong)

How about having it turn out that the humans actually were the Arnor and Dreadlords, and the embarrisment causes them to stay in their pocket universe.

Yes, as in you actually played them, or yes, as in you agree with me?

Er, look at his medals and you'll see his primary race is thalan.

Unless I am mistaken, the Arnor and the Dread Lords are not the same, are they? Aren't the DL from one of the 5 pre-life people at the beginning of the story who came from another dimension and went mad because he were able to feel time passing, unlike the other 4?

If I had to choose to "ax" someone, it would be the Korx, I just don't like them, and I don't feel they have that much interest, storywise...
I think the Arceans might get the ax as their historic background is in the past, with them being the ones that "discovered" Humanity... I like them, so I hope they don't get the ax.
Iconians, I have never really understood. They are supposed to be good, but consider themselves to be the decendants of the Dread Lords...?
I hope the Alterians, the Drath and the Torians are not on the choping bloc, I like them alot. Usually good allies, although the Alterians are a bit too warlike for my taste...
Also, what happend to the Arnor? The DLs ended up in the pocket universe, then what about the rest?
