tagline for the expansion
Published on May 29, 2006 By Draginol In GalCiv Journals

One of the nice things about being an indie title that isn't incredibly mainstream is that you can do things that wouldn't necessarily appeal to the casual player.

For instance, the expansion pack for GalCiv II has gotten its features, story, plot, etc. mapped out now.  We'll talk about that more soon.

But it will contain a campaign and it will be dark. Very dark.  Two of the major civilizations in GalCiv II will be wiped out. Eliminated. You'll still be able to play them in GalCiv II but come GalCiv III, they won't exist. Eradicated.  Individuals of the two races may still exist and show up in GalCiv III but as playable races, their histories will come to an end.

Two new civilizations will be introduced in the expansion pack which will have the native ability to make use of planets that the others can't use without research (the expansion will introduce the concept of special planet types that can't be colonized until you've researched the appropriate environment technology). A third civilization will be added too which  will act as the main villain (well, of course the Drengin are villains too but, well you'll see).

And if you think the blood thirsty Drengin are bad with their desire to enslave all the galaxy as "slavelings", there are worse things than the Drengin and we're not talking about the Dread Lords.

sounds good... I can't wait to get my hands on the expansion.
on May 29, 2006
I hope the Elierians put in an appearance.

Sounds really good

I am hoping that, as i GC1, the extra two races will be added into the core game too. Be really good to come up against them in MV play too

I would like to know if all 14 races can be played from the sandbox mode in the expansion?
on May 29, 2006
Well, I hope one of the races to get the boot is the Korx. They're dorx.
They are the least challenging of any of the major races.
on May 29, 2006
Don't touch the Thalans!
My money is on the Torians and Altarians.

Hey, why don't you start a competition about what users think who gets the boot and why?
The winner(s) could get the expansion for free. (...or a t-shirt of the extinct race. )

Outstanding!! Im looking forward to see what's in the twisted minds of the devs.

One evil race will surely be gone..The balance of alighments would suggest that.

I'm guessing for a shocker it may be the Terrans??
on May 29, 2006
I'm not buying this expansion if the Terrans get eliminated.
on May 29, 2006
Ooooooooooooohhhhhh scary..... can't wait

I just hope the new races don't cheat in the same way as the Dread Lords do, simply by having ridiculously higher stats... think Settlers: HoK expansion - those missions were next to stupidly impossible because they just jacked up the enemy's power rather than the strategy.

I know while I won't be interested in the new campaign (I also didn't even try the dread lords campaign, sandbox rules!) lots of players are and the campaign will surely be a major part of the expansion.
Having a look on what you released with GalCiv2 there is absolutely no doubt that the expansion pack will be worth the money and sandbox games will also benefit from new races and features, so I can't wait to hold it in hands.
Keep up your good work and keep up that frequent journal articles about upcoming changes, it is always exciting to read about progresses.

BTW, terminate the Terrans, their leader looks ugly!

I thought our similar-looking Altarian brethren might be enough for starters.

I don't think an evil race will be eliminated, the campaign is meant to be dark, isn't it? Hmm, maybe an evil race gets replaced by an even more evil race then.

Excellent, bring it on.

Note:- Good gets it in the neck, again...

Two of the major civilizations in GalCiv II will be wiped out.

Not so good...

Please not the Drengin, Yor, Drath, Altarians or Torians. The other four u can have...

Two new civilizations will be introduced in the expansion pack which will have the native ability to make use of planets that the others can't use without research (the expansion will introduce the concept of special planet types that can't be colonized until you've researched the appropriate environment technology).

Excellent wanted this for some time. The Yor should be able to build colonys on moons etc... with no real penalty.

Hope those races r better then the 2 axed.

A third civilization will be added too which will act as the main villain

We kicked the dreadlords all over the galaxy, this one will go the same way...
