tagline for the expansion
Published on May 29, 2006 By Draginol In GalCiv Journals

One of the nice things about being an indie title that isn't incredibly mainstream is that you can do things that wouldn't necessarily appeal to the casual player.

For instance, the expansion pack for GalCiv II has gotten its features, story, plot, etc. mapped out now.  We'll talk about that more soon.

But it will contain a campaign and it will be dark. Very dark.  Two of the major civilizations in GalCiv II will be wiped out. Eliminated. You'll still be able to play them in GalCiv II but come GalCiv III, they won't exist. Eradicated.  Individuals of the two races may still exist and show up in GalCiv III but as playable races, their histories will come to an end.

Two new civilizations will be introduced in the expansion pack which will have the native ability to make use of planets that the others can't use without research (the expansion will introduce the concept of special planet types that can't be colonized until you've researched the appropriate environment technology). A third civilization will be added too which  will act as the main villain (well, of course the Drengin are villains too but, well you'll see).

And if you think the blood thirsty Drengin are bad with their desire to enslave all the galaxy as "slavelings", there are worse things than the Drengin and we're not talking about the Dread Lords.

I say the Iconians get finished off by the Yor.

Hehe, you people are so funny. I had no idea some of you were so attached to the races (I always make my own custom race). An interesting twist would be if both the human races were exterminated and it was a Galaxy of non Homo-Sapiens.

If I had to vote - my vote would be for one of the Homo-Sapian races to be eliminated, and maybe the Iconians. Now I love the Iconians... but they've been the easiest push-overs in every game I've played. The Korx would be my runner-up... but I've found them interesting and fun to have in my games. since they're very untrustworthy.

I'm trying to cobble together bits and pieces of information from previous interviews etc. If I remember properly, isn't the expansion campaign played as the Drengin?

My money is on the Korx and the Arceans. The Arceans are a noble warrior race, who you can easily picture fighting to the death against a new evil. And I doubt the new evil will have much interest in money.

Please ! Please ! Don't kill the Torians ! I love them. If the Torians disappear i will hack all your servers and kidnap your children, rape your houses and burn your spouses. Uh... Got a bit carried away, but, well, please, leave the torians alone...
Kill those thalans, they only are insects, they exist only to be crushed.

The Torians are good indeed ; but that's great ! When they get on your nerves with their kindness, you destroy them with immense satisfaction ; when you feel like you want to be friends with someoen, they are always here.

Dont. Kill. The. Torians.

(PS : the above isn't serious. It's your universe, do as you please. I won't rape your houses.)

Who else in the Universe could be worse than the Drengin and Dread Lords than the Humans?

Oh, I don't want to see the Korx go anywhere. They have some of the better dialogue. But eh, I don't particularly have a say in it. Though I would expect the Korx to die, I'm also thinking Altaria may be brought down. This IS going to be an expansion about striving to be evil.

Wow! Races completely destroyed! I love the idea of that! It is something you don't often see in games.

I do have one suggestion though, allow all researched techs to be carried over to future missions.

I think it's almost a given that the Iconians will get wiped out... eg. when you select "No Minor Races" you can't have them in the game... so if they're considered a minor race, they're going to go

Does this mean the killer squirrels will get the larger role they so deserve?
Back to topic, I'm fond of the Korx, but it seems that they are a bit large for insterstellar mercenaries I like an idea of running the korx similarly to how mercenary units were run in Rome:TW, but more on topic, axe the Korx, and those punks the Drath, somehow I think that after everybody realized the Drath were manipulating them the Drath would not survive too long.

I wouldn't cry over the loss of the Altarians, I'm really tired of their crusades. Past that as long as the Drengin and Yor survive I'll be content, actually I probably won't care too much.
VIva Lord Kona, viva Drengi!

Please improve the fleet combat system so that the player has full control of his ships during the combat sequences. "Real time" would be the best, but if there is another method that gives the player full control it might be acceptable.

Thanks for a great game.

I did not had so much fun with a game until Steel Panther. I'll keep praising this game to all that can hear me, and I'll buy these extensions....

on May 30, 2006
Please don't kill the Iconians... *sniff*

The Korx suck, and the Thalans aren't interesting enough. Death to the bugs!!!

Lets print up some "Save the Iconians" T-shirts!

Actually, I also want a black one with a picture of a Torian on it, outlined in green. Above the picture are the words "I joined a galactic war.. AND SURVIVED!"
on May 30, 2006
The Torians might be one of the ones to go I guess. Since you're playing as the Drengin, and those two do have a history, you can imagine that one of the missions might involve sending them back to slavery.

Oh, and the idea of the Snatchi being promoted to a major race is hereby seconded

The Snathi would have the Drengin marching back to the humans to beg for help and forgiveness.
on May 30, 2006
Does this mean that the Snathi will finally rise to a dominate place in the galaxy as we always knew they would?

*EDIT* See if I actually took the time to read the whole thread I wouldn't make stupid statements like this *nod nod*

The expansion sounds really cool. I would like to check it out when it becomes available. I am glad that you are putting a campaign in the expansion, the rest of it is gravy as far as I am concerned.
