Every time I announce to family and friends what noon kooky thing I’m going to try, people assume that I’ll grow tired of it and quit doing it. My poor wife, however, knows differently and has gone from being supportive to dread when I start brain storming some hair brained thing I’d like to try. I think the bees were the tipping point where she realized that once I pick up a hobby, I’ll stick to it.  Obviously there’s finite time in the day so hobbies to displace other activitie...

I have a new home made drink that I will share with you. Learned the secret from a local pub. You take some vanilla vodka and mix it with chocolate gadiva chocolate liquor and some white chocolate gadiva chocolate liquor.  Mmm. Very nice.

My car's lease is almost up so I have to think about getting a new one.  I currently have a 2003 Bonnaville. It's a pretty good car actually. Cost around $35,000 back in 2003. But now it's time for a new one? Any suggestions? Here are the specs: (1) Needs to be front-wheel or all-wheel drive. (2) I prefer American made cars. (3) Prefer a head's up display (4) Prefer but don't require 4-door vehicle. (5) Needs ot have built in nice GPS type unit. (6) Needs to have enough horse pow...

In a comment to an article about racism, someone from Australia made the absurd claim that Australia is the most multi-cultural country in the world.  Not to be outdone, someone from Canada claimed the mantle for Canada.  What's next? Someone from Japan making that claim? Here are some statistics on the racial make up of a few selected countries: Australia: Caucasian 92%, Asian 7%, aboriginal and other 1% Canada: Canada has diversity if you count various types of white people...

We've been noticing an increasing tendancy of people to simply go and take a well known columnist's writings and simpy copy and paste the entire thing and submit it as their blog entry here on JoeUser.com. That violates the original author's copyright. You can use pieces of someone's article as part of your own article, that is known as "fair use". But you can't just wholesale copy someone else's work and submit it as your blog entry. Not only it is unethical but it creates a potential liab...

Is penis size really that big of a problem? Each day, I get around 600 to 800 email. About 400 to 600 of it is spam that gets filtered. But I swear, about half of it is email providing solutions to penis size. Things brings up two questions: 1) Is there really that big of a market for penis enlargement? and 2) How did they know?

Okay, so George and JR have been working really hard to clean up the underlying code for the site. For a few weeks, the site was feeling like it was crawling. Perosnally, I was running into two problems: 1) Overall sluggishness of pages coming up. 2) Page stalling. That is, I would get that top JoeUser yellow bar thingy and then the rest of the site would never come up. If any of you have experienced any of these things, please respond here letting us know if it's any better. We are...

Right now JoeUser just strikes me as being really slow. At first, I thought it was all the database stuff. But now, the home page is done at an HTM and it's still slow for me. The Joeuser header bar at the top shows up and sometimes it stalls on me there and I have to hit refresh. Seems CSS may not be so wonderful after all. Is anyone else running into this?

Meanwhile over at http://www.lileks.com/bleats/archive/03/1003/101303.html , Lileks has a great fisking of the FBI whistle blower who exceeded her grasp by writing a fairly incoherent article trying to argue that we are losing our freedoms. Before you take a position on whether we are indeed losing our freedoms, check out Lileks's response in his blog (it's down a few paragraphs). His response is compelling.

As I type this, JoeUser is on an epic journey across the United States. From Georgia to California. As a result, there will be, for the next 3 or 4 days, some weirdness and articles missing and such. They'll be back asap.
