One has to wonder what’s going through Charlie Sheens mind.  But I suspect that I’m not the only person who’s wondered how often the mega successful think “Why should I put up with crap? I’m rich!” The problem is, that place only leads to ruin. As tempting as it is to lash out at your critics and demonstrate your capacity to operate without restraint, no man is an island. When my son was younger, he asked me why certain words were considered “dirty”. I told him that these were wer...

This is a real tragedy but a woman in a mini van was racing through a parking lot to try to beat a train to the crossing. She lost. Inside her van were her 4 children. Two of them (her two daughters) were killed.  Her two sons survived but were badly injured as well as the woman.

Here's a map of the United States but with state names changed to countries that have a similar GDP (gross domestic product) to that state.  Kind of gives a whole new perspective on things.

Michigan isn't a bad state unless you're trying to run a business. Then it pretty much blows. For years, we had the stupid "single business tax". But on top of that we have horrible roads, Detroit, and apparently brain-dead politicians in the state capital. Last month, the Michigan house of representatives proposed providing every child an MP3 player for "educational" purposes.  Mind you, we have a $1 billion deficit.  So how to pay for this? Higher taxes.  Unbelieveable. ...

This past week's 20/20 explores some of the myths of who gives and who doesn't in America and in the world.  It was a fascinating look at the giving habits of different segments of society. A few points that were brought up: The working poor give the most (as a % of income) The non-working poor (welfare people) give the least, even as a %) Rich people give more (as a %) than middle class people. Conservatives give a lot more than liberals Americans give 7 times more to char...

I have little patience for racists.  Most racists I encounter fall into two groups: Group 1: People who are indoctrinated to be racists.  They grow up around racist people and become racist themselves. These are the people who will go to ridiculous lengths to "prove" that one race is "better" than another. Group 2: People who confuse race with culture.  They'll say "Look at all those <insert racial group here> doing that? They're natural born <insert insult here>...

The levee on 17th Street in New Orleans shouldn't have broken.  While designed to handle a load of 14 feet of water, it never reached that and broke causing what is now estimated at $300 billion in damage. According to the investigation, the engineering error was so obvious, so trivial that it should have been spotted and that it was not caught ultimately resulted in a significant percentage of the damage done to New Orleans from Katrina. Read the whole thing.

In the battle of Okinawa, a small island in the Pacific ocean, over 12,000 Americans died and another 38,000 were seriously wounded. Mind you, this was to take an island that was tiny and had a population less than part of Baghad. And we're still there today. Luckily, Americans were a little bit tougher of skin back then.  We didn't shirk or slink away from paying a high price to do things that were important in a larger sense.  2,000 Americans have died in Iraq over the past...

I've been working massive hours these past two weeks so I haven't had much time to pay attention to the Katrina situation.  From what little I've seen, it's incredibly tragic and my thoughts definitely go to the families and friends of those who are involved in that terrible situation. It's also amazing to see how the situation brings the best and worst out of people.  I've read a lot of articles on the subject this evening and I'm just amazed at the vitriol and emotion involved on ...

One has to wonder about the sanity of anyone who would, the day after April 15th (tax time in the US) argue that we aren't paying enough taxes. I invite those who think they're undertaxed to write a big old check to the government so that they can pay their share.  Because in my experience, the people who scream the loudest for more taxes aren't paying their share. The ones yelling that the "rich" should pay more taxes are typically people paying trivial amounts of taxation already.&n...

The Terry Schiavo cas has certainly stirred up many emotional reactions in people. I know that I was deeply troubled by what has happened.  Even though I consider myself militantly pro-choice on issues such as abortion and believe that Assisted Suicide should be the law of the land, these things still have one thing in common - individual choice. Terry Schiavo has been severely mentally disabled for over a decade. How disabled she is is a matter of debate. The law states that if a person...

People seem to be really obsessed over how much cash different countries are pledging. One thing that doesn't (surprise) get that much coverage is how much money different countries have already spent in reality. As I surf the web, one thing that comes up over and over is the utter lack of understanding of logistics. It's as if some people imagine that food, water, shelter, clothing just magically appear to victims of the Tsunamis.  One almost imagines they they picture a Star Trek like ...

You can fine the complete report here . I'm not impressed. Very little introspection.  They tossed out 4 people but there doesn't seem to be any soul searching of why this happened. They blame it on "competitive pressures" - as if there were tons of others ready to pounce on this "story". The reality is that a clique of far-left wing "journalists" at CBS got out of control and nearly brought the network to its knees. Until the mainsteram media can come to terms with its bias, it's going...
