I so do love the Internet. I really do.  Only on the Internet can “some guy” tell you how you should be doing a job that you have obviously succeeded at far beyond their wildest dreams.

Ok, saw this.  Was surprisingly good. 3.5 out of 5. Much better than the original Wolverine Origin movie.  Have you seen it? What do you think?

My gift and curse is that I don’t require a “normal” amount of sleep. After 4 or so hours, I wake up, full of energy for the next day.  It’s come in handy when it comes to being productive but it's gotten me into a lot of trouble as well as I can almost always respond more in a “debate” than someone else giving the impression that I’m obsessing on something when in fact I just have…well, more time available to invest in something. With that introduction, let me introduce you to one of...

There's a great line in Atlas Shrugs that goes like this: "You concluded I was the safest person in the world to spit on because I have power over you and that I would be tied by the fear of hurting your feelings by reminding you of it." Our society seems to have taken that view en-masse in recent years.

The technological singularity is defined to be the point in which technological progress is increasing at a rate that human level intelligence can no longer predict what will come next. We are closer to that time than most people think. There are a lot of technologies most people expect to happen that I don’t think will happen or, if they do happen, will be relevant for a startling short amount of time. For example, strong AI.  My day programming job is AI (for ga...

As discussed here , the climate models that predicted a rapidly warming earth continue to be way way off.   The measured results and the projected results are way off. I’ve received a lot of grief over the years from friends, family and colleagues because I’m a global warming “skeptic” (particularly about AGW).  Now mind you, I drive an electric car powered by a solar array and live in a house heated and cooled through Geothermal and had a gold rating from ...

Recently I was involved in a discussion regarding the two Boston Marathon bombers.  It started off with someone expressing concern about the amount of anger and hatred being directed towards the bombers. I am dismayed and afraid about the amount of hate and vengeance for the two who planted the bombs. It is spreading the attitude of vengeance in our country. I saw a quote from Ghandi this morning which I have not verified, but it struck me as true. "An eye for an eye will make...

Is to connect super talented people together and get the hell out of their way.  I am continually amazed at how much these guys/gals are able to do with so little. 2012 was a pretty awesome year but 2013 is looking to be insane.

Found this video here: Even being familiar with the stats, it was a really fascinating and well put together illustration of the massive level of inequality in wealth we have in the United States. I have two fundamental criticisms with it. First, knowledge isn’t understanding. That is, the author gives me the impression that he thinks wealth is “distributed” by some..entity. That somehow wealth is being divied up by some sort of directed intelligence and that we,...

As we get more connected online, the haters of the world become more empowered. I am often astonished at some of the brazen behavior I see in comments and on forums by people who, one assumes, are functioning people in real life.  I think a key ingredient is narcisism. i cant think of any other explanation for someone who puts effort into trying to upset other people while their own identities are just a bit of Google-Fu away. If you’ve ever read an article on someone before, there...

Today our family dog, Bailey, turned two years old.  Thanks to the power of the Internet and Facebook we have been able to keep in touch with Bailey’s siblings. Here’s Bailey with my daughter:   and in the snow:   and last summer with her ball:   Bailey’s Brother with his ball:   Bailey’s sister with her toys:   Bailey’s sister with her ball and at Halloween: (Scout) ...

Two takeaways from the PS4: 1. GDDR-5 memory. This means a lot of bandwidth to communicate between assets and the CPU. A pretty big deal as it ensures that their CPU will be more fully utilized. 2. 64-bit. This is huge. Means you’ll be able to support megatextures and have vastly richer worlds to play in. More specifically, it’ll mean that it’ll support types of games that you couldn’t realistically do on a mobile device which keeps the iOS/Android games away. It also means that the g...
