Imagine what the uproar would be if say Dick Cheney said that Democrats pretty much act the same and look the same to him.  There's be cries for his resignation.  After all, Republicans ousted Trent Lott over a lot less.  But the Democrats..well, they have different standards of behavior.  It's okay for them to be overt bigots.  Whether that be former KKK Senator Byrd or Jesse "Hymie Town" Jackson, and now Howard Dean, Democrats have spent so much time accusing others of...

One of the coolest features (I think) of Stardock.net sites are the referral links. Some sites have "track back" but it's a long, painful, manual process.  On Stardock.net sites like JoeUser or WinCustomize or GalCiv.com ro whatever, if you link to a particular article, you can see your link and how many people came to it from your link via referrals. It's very cool.

So you're a kid. La-di-la-la.  One day you're 19. At college. Trying to get through your classes. And then one day you wake up and you're 33, married with two children. The good news: Your acne cleared up.  The bad news, your hair may be thinning. The zits are gone, but now I swear my hair is thinning. I'm not sure, it used to be too painful to comb it. But I swear it was thicker before! I hear that propecia can fix it but on the one hand, I'm married. Who gives a crap how I look? ...

..Once upon a time I wanted to be an electrical engineer.  I would design the next generation computer CPUs. A job at Intel or Motorolla. But somewhere along the way I ended up writing some game for OS/2. I didn't even know how to program at the time. I bought "Teach Yourself C in 21 days" and a couple OS/2 programming books and wrote a game.  I didn't get actually paid for that game because the publisher ripped me off. Took the money and ran. So fine, I would write software and p...

I have a new home made drink that I will share with you. Learned the secret from a local pub. You take some vanilla vodka and mix it with chocolate gadiva chocolate liquor and some white chocolate gadiva chocolate liquor.  Mmm. Very nice.

How screwed up are the bankruptcy laws? Well, there's a company that owed us over $300,000 in royalties. Literally took in money that was supposed to be for us and simply didn't pay us.  In order to keep us from making a loud public hub-bub about it, they agreed to let us sell some of their products through our store so that we could apply those sales to their outstanding debt.  Their royalty ended up being fairly small, say $2,400.  But through the magic of bankruptcy, thi...

There's a lot of really cool stuff out there that lets you customize Windows in various ways.  Stardock may make much of the popular/cool stuff but there's some neat stuff going on.  Here are some highlights of things I really enjoy looking at. If you're into skinnable calendars, check out Rainlendar: I don't tend to use Rainlendar that much since my DesktopX based calendars do the trick. But Rainlendar has a lot of very good features to make use of and has a lot more skin...

I've created a Myth Inc. Guild Group called http://mythincguild.joeuser.com .  So you can now create your own blog here at JoeUser.com and then join the MythIncGuild blog.  Then we can all write to the same blog. JoeUser.com is one of the sites our company owns so this isn't just some site that we're borrowing for this purpose.

Whenever I talk to someone looking for a job, I'm amazed at how often they are down on their own abilities.  What they don't realize is that the issue isn't always so much how good they are but rather how awful their competitors for many positions are. Since finding myself on the employing end of the business line, I've been shocked at how often people given every opportunity to succeed will still blow it.  Even when the position requires just showing up on time (or close to it) and...

Ever wonder what OS is running the Xbox 360 that's due out later this year? Essentially it's a derivative of Windows 2000 that's been ported to the PowerPC. But read the whole thing to learn more..

Last week I had my first really bad experience with the power of JoeUser's automated category syndication.  You see, when you write an article on JoeUser.com, the system will look at what category you filed it under and then syndicate it out to other sites on the Stardock.net system.  So if I write a blog on politics, it will show up on JoeUser.com.  Write a blog on skinning and it shows up on WinCustomize.com.  The system does work both ways where those sites feed into JoeUs...

Michigan drivers are not polite. Each state seems to have its own character of drivers.  Michigan drivers rank amongst the most annoying because of their mid-western tendency to be passive aggressive.  For instance, the turn signal is an indication for car behind you and in another lane to speed up to cut you off.  By contrast, in California, residents seem all too willing to drop back to let you merge with them.  On the surface, this may seem like a good thing.  B...

I've been trying to talk my wife out of living in Michigan for something like a gagillion years.  Not that Michigan is awful. It's not.  It has beautiful Spring and Falls and summers are quite pleasant.  And our part of Michigan (south eastern), is no more north than Northern California.  On the other hand, Michigan has terrible roads.  Sure, there's no traffic compared to say New York or California but they're full of pot-holes.  The excuse is that trucks in Mi...

For all the talk about how Dubya is ruining the environment, the reality is somewhat different.  When it comes to auto emissions, the US has the tightest auto emissions laws in the world.  For instance, starting this year, US autos are only allowed to put out 1/4th as much NO2 as their European counterparts.  But across the board, from cars to industry emissions, the US air quality laws are far stricter than other industrialized nations.  When it comes to clean air, the US - ...
