In no particular order… Scientists are Democrats…right? Pew Research says that 55% of scientists say they are Democrats, 6% Republicans . Gosh, must mean people who value the scientific method are Democrats while Republicans are just a bunch of religious nut jobs right? Strangely, the left-wingers who have commented on it don’t seem to be that concerned as to how the survey identified who a “scientist” was.  Is a scientist someone who works at a university doing pure sci...

One of the sites I hang out on is called TreeHugger.com .  People who know me in person know that I’m pretty into helping the environment.  However, I just don’t find the evidence of humans materially affecting the climate to be persuasive. Most of the discussions are about things like making your home more energy efficient or how to improve your local environment. But every now and then, you get a global warming discussion and the militancy of the global warming advocates c...

Wow. I mean, wow! San Diego county is demanding that people stop inviting friends over to their home for a bible study on the grounds that they do not have a permit. This is why, I don’t care where you stand on most political issues, I fear government power. A lot of people view politics as either liberal or conservative. I view it as the tug of war between those who push for anarchy and those who push for tyranny.  We live in the relatively comfortable area in-betwee...

Anyone who reads enough of my posts can probably tell that I’m a kook. As I get older, I become more and more of a kook.  I have some theories as to why people in my position inevitably become more and more weird as they get older but that’s for another conversation. Former speaker Newt Gingrich has a fantastic article pointing out something that many people who follow this stuff are not just well aware of ut preparing for but is probably news to most Americans: There is a pretty good ...

Whether it be Obama’s poor handling of the British Prime Minister or his crazy remark that the US invented the automobile or even Obama’s aggressive plans to introduce ever more troops into Afghanistan (talk about a real quagmire opportunity) the question that keeps coming to my mind is: What if Bush had done the same thing? What would the reaction had been? Today’s example is Obama’s firing of the CEO of General Motors.  Think about that. The President of the United States just fired ...

As some people saw in the recent deficit graph, President Obama plans to create deficits that are just staggering. They make the ridiculous Bush deficits seem downright responsible. So what will happen as a result? There are 4 possible things, none of which are good for our country. 1. We’ll have to print more money to pay for the loans the government is going to have to take out to pay for these crazy programs which means increased inflation. That means your assets will become wo...

Jake DeSantis, the executive Vice Prsident of AIG’s financial product unit has put his resignation letter online.  It’s worth reading.   View: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/25/opinion/25desantis.html?pagewanted=1&_r=2&partner=rss&emc=rss

I was somewhat disgusted with Bush having deficits but compared to Obama, Bush was a piker.

The Democrats have introduced a bill in congress that will put an end to those Farmer Markets. The bill’s sponsor, Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), is married to the CEO of Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research does work for Monsanto. The bill would force anyone who produces food and transports it (even in state) to register with a new federal agency called the “Food Safety Administration” and have their food inspected prior to sale which would, effectively put an end to those road-side stands or farmers m...

In Finland, how much you make determines the amount of a fine. For instance, a Finnish millionaire recently got a 112,000-euro speeding ticket (he was about 10 over).  That’s because the fine is calculated using what he earned last year. So the guy who inherits his wealth and sits on his butt is fine. But the guy who’s working his rear end off gets penalized more. Taking this to its logical conclusion, a young person should get more time in prison because he has more life av...

There are a lot of things I rant about to my poor wife– CO2 claptrap, illegal immigration, political correctness, the failure of our schools, the insouciance of government, societal disintegration generally. I see cowardice everywhere. The case of our friend, Mark Steyn leaps to mind. When we have governmental tribunals to silence citizens –and non citizens alike!– (as in Canada and in Europe) totalitarianism is not far away. I am astonished that I see only shrugs over the possibility of International tribunals holding sway over Americans. I observe how clever liberals are at labeling people and then getting laws passed to silence their branded enemies. Yes, now they are truly Enemies of the State. Conservatives must continue to sound the alarm. Indeed, they must become more vocal. They cannot allow the high ground to be taken if they want to recognize their country in only a few decades hence.

Read the whole thing here: http://www.melissaclouthier.com/2009/03/06/why-conservatives-worry-a-letter-from-a-reader/

Definitely worth the read.

Interesting article here: http://www.melissaclouthier.com/2009/03/04/going-john-galt-stop/ Definitely worth reading. So my taxes are going to go up. Way up. But don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine. The middle class, however, won’t be so fine. Part of the problem with our society is that deep down, we know some basic truths about it but it has been made impolitic to speak about these truths. So here are some of the unspoken truths that most people already know. #...

It’s well known I wasn’t a Bush fan. I may have more in common with Bush on ideology but in terms of his personality, I am glad he’s gone. I think Bush is a good man, I just don’t think he was well suited to be President. Obama, on the other hand, is very well suited to be President.  He has far more empathy.  Pundits don’t realize how much credibility Obama gets from people when he admits mistakes. The big bummer with Obama, of course, is that he doesn’t understand economics...
