I can't help it. I spent most of my years being way underweight. Ridiculously skinny. But I got a picture of myself from my mom at the wedding we went to and I have a gut. Me. A gut. ME. Gut. Gut ME. How did this happen? I'm only 165 pounds (5 foot 11). So you know it's mostly flab. Muscle weighs more than fat and so you know if I have a gut it's gotta be flab. So what do I do? I really like food. I like Coca-Cola. I like McDonalds. I like ice cream. I like eating lat...
So the US Women's soccer team won the gold medal. Not to be too much of an ugly American but sheesh, talk about dominating the olympics to a ridiculous margin. We don't even like soccer here. It would be like Cuba winning the hockey gold. Medal count: Country Total Medals Gold Silver Bronze United States 83 28 31 24 Russia 57 15 19 23 China 54 25 17 12...
The CO2 level in the atmosphere is now 372 parts per million. Before the industrial revolution, which began the widespread use of fossil fuels (coal and oil mainly), that number was only 227 parts per million. That's a 30% increase. CO2 is a green house gas. It is not a pollutant. When you burn something, anything, your best case scenario for non-pollution end result is water and carbon dioxide. There's no magic bullet to solving that as long as are relying on energy so...
Ever have to deal with people who just suck the energy out of your day? For most people, I suspect it's a coworker or boss. Someone who comes to your office or cube or whatever and says something in such a way that seems almost designed to piss you off. I don't run into that much since I don't have a boss. But it still happens sometimes with business "partners". Sometimes when working with much larger companies on a project there is the tendancy for some high up project mana...
Check out this article for some thoughts on Nation building -- in France. Perhaps seizing France from the Nazi's was a bad policy after all...
One of the things that I think makes some people not want to use widgets is that they don't want to clutter up their desktop with them. A feature new in DesktopX 2.2 is the overlay feature. With it, you can use a hot key (default if F9 and F10) to either activate your widgets (F9) or toggle showing and hidding them (F10). Widgets on your desktop: (zoom) Now hit the F9 key and they'll pop up on top of your app so you can get to them: (zoom) I think it's been said befor...
So how are you liking the results of Campaign Finance Reform? Swift boat ads. MoveOn.org. OutFoxed. Wonderful stuff eh? Yep, Campaign Finance Reform has really clenaed up politics...
In 1992, when Clinton was the democratic nominee, they attacked Bush Sr's war record. http://www.nationalreview.com/kerry/kerry200408231323.asp
Widgets & Desktop Objects. They are terms that have become increasingly popular over the past couple of years. What are they? Why do we need them? Why now? Widgets & Desktop Objects can be used interchangeably. They all have to do with one thing making the desktop home to more than static images (called "icons"). Since Apple released the Lisa back in 1983sh, the computer desktop has increasingly moved towards a visual interface. The GUI (or gooey). The little i...
Because I'm mentioned in Time Magazine this week the subject of "the company" came up from time to time at the wedding I attended. One question that comes up, inexplicably, is "are you still running your company out of your house?" I've had this question posted 4 times by family members. I'm not sure how this comes about. Our company was never run out of our house. It was in my dorm room for a very short amount of time, 11 years ago. But since 1995 it's had an office. ...
Is it just me or does anyone see the irony of the people who are hysterical about the swift-boat attacks on Kerry? Kerry, who is running for President, and his supporters arguing that these guys, many of whom are pretty normal "regular guys" are somehow political activists with (egads) an agenda. And because they have an agenda what they say can't be trusted. But somehow we can trust what Kerry says...because..he doesn't have an agenda?
My cousin Dirk got married this weekend. The wife and kids and I went out to Plainwell for it and had a good time. It was a pretty thorough family reunion for the "Bradley" side (my mom's side of the family). Dirk and Danielle had been together for 13 years, that's a year longer than my wife and I. Normally with weddings you hope for the best but you can never be sure with how things will work out. Not so with D & D since they are a great couple. Why they decided to get...
Every so often I see someone say they're not going to blog anymore because they didn't get their articles featured to the home page or because there aren't enough comments on their blogs. I think those people need to ask themselves why they're blogging in the first place. Personally, I blog because I enjoy writing. I enjoy communicating with others. And yes, I do want others to read what I write. But I don't sit back and wait for some automated system to promote my stuff...
CNN has a really nice article on The Political Machine, the game I worked on this past Spring/Summer. Check it out.
Well we're pretty excited. On Page 21 in the new issue of Time Magazine Stardock's newest game, The Political Machine, published by our friends at Ubi Soft, gets a very favorable review. And in the fame (though not fortune category), I'm quoted in the article. If you've ever wanted to try your hands at Presidential politics without having to leave the house, The Political Machine is your game. It should be at a store near you (Walmart, Best Buy, etc.). Or you can get it from T...
