Brad Wardell's views about technology, politics, religion, world affairs, and all sorts of politically incorrect topics.

The tolerent, thoughtful left wing of America had a week of enlightening protests.  Here's a link that goes over them in some detail.

Today I want to show you how to SKIN a DesktopX object/widget -- without using a GUI.  One frustration of skinners is that if you work with complicated width or object group it gets tedious to try to create other visual editions of it. Let me give you an example: This is the iTunes widget for DesktopX. It's really cool. But what if you want to make change the way it looks. Not the shape so much but to change around the graphics some.  One way is to work with each object in th...

Next time someone argues there is no liberal media bias, point out the attention Zell Miller's speech has gotten and compare it to the speeches given by Gore and Sharpton at the DNC.

Pay close attention: It's all about Ohio. Whoever wins Ohio wins the election.  Kerry knows this. So does Bush.  If you live on Ohio, I imagine every ad is a political ad and if not, it soon will be. All this post-convention "bounce" they talk about ultimately means nothing if Bush loses Ohio because it's not the popular vote that matters, as Gore discovered.  It's all about the electoral college and if Kerry can win Ohio, it's all over for Bush.

Oye it gets old debating with people who are..well newbies to the on-line scene. Here's a few brief tips: A good debater will put an argument in the following form: <Assertion><Evidence>. <It's hot outside today>, <my thermometer says it's 89 degrees.> No one expects others to be robots. The assertion is almost always expected to be subjective (hence the debate).  Most things can't be proven. But if you ever hope to convince others of the validity of your...

Left-Wing and Right-Wing zealots on the Internet have a problem. Actually, two problems - a different one for each side. Bear with a generalization for a moment:  people who are left of center politically tend not to be quite as analytical as the general population. You don't find too many engineers, for example, arguing for liberal causes.  And you don't find too many artists arguing for conservative causes. There are exceptions of course but as a generalization, I think you'd...

Often times I see people describe those who vocally support tax cuts as being "greedy". But it isn't "greed" that drives that generally IMO. It sure isn't for me. It's about labor. The average tax payer works 10 to 12 hours per week for the government. That's quite a bit of "community service". But here's a fact that most people don't realize: Most people who are "rich" work a lot more hours per week - hence work even more hours for the government. A lot of people who are considered "wealthy"...

I highly recommend reading the text of Rudy Giuliani's speech. Very thought provoking and demonstrating that the mainstream Republicans were for going into Iraq for the same reasons most of us in the blogsphere supported going into Iraq.  And it wasn't WMDs.

On a non-busy week, I will work 6 days each week.  About 8 hours at the office when I get in near noon and then another 2 to 8 hours at home depending on how busy I am. This week is busy mainly because I'm involved in more projects than I would expect. We need more managers, more developers, more graphics designers, more business development people, more IT people. We just need more people in short. But interviewing takes time I don't have either. And when it comes to hiring managem...

This past week the 2003 report on the poverty rate for the United States came out.  The poverty rate grew slightly for the third straight year from its its all time low in 2000 (right when the stock bubble about about to burst).  It is now back to where it was during most of the 90s -- 12.5%. In addition to the link below, you can also find out more on this from the US census bureau: http://www.census.gov/hhes/www/poverty.html The problem with the poverty rate is that it seems ...

The Political Operative's Kit for The Political Machine provides, amongst other things, two editors. It doesn't come with the retail version of The Political Machine but can be purchased for $10 from Stardock (if you bought The Political Machine from Stardock at $29.95 it includes this kit). The first editor is the issue editor. The second is the interview question editor. The Issue Editor In the game, candidates compete on the issues. There are essentially two types of issues in ...

Never underestimate the ability of human beings to rationalize their behavior.  No matter what it is you give away freely, you will always end up with some people who will rationalize that they are customers and should be treated as such.   The blogger who inspired me into starting my blog, Steven Den Beste , has decided to take an extended break from blogging.  In a nutshell, he’s fed up.  Fed up with people nitpicking his writing. People who make demands on him as if ...

One thing that is definitely nice about console game development is that if your game works on your console, it's going to work on all the other ones. Meanwhile, in the PC arena, the grass isn't just less green, it's weedy and full of mole holes. At Stardock we stayed with the whole 2D sprite thing probably longer than we should have. And reviews of our games would tend to be "There's a great game under these 'dated graphics'." And oh we know where you are...the ninjas are on the way.. ...

It's cool to have a game at CompUSA (that's not me in the picture before you ask). Especially one getting so much exposure.  Way to go Ubi Soft who is kicking major butt.  The game is doing really well. Good reviews. Lots of interesting coverage. And people seem to like it. The only downer I've seen is that some people with really low end video cards have run into issues with it that we're trying to solve. But I can almost never get people to give me useful information.  It'...

So I'm going to be getting up early tomorrow. Arnie Arnesen's radio show on the east coast at 8am is going to have me on to talk about The Political Machine . But boy, I hate getting up that early. Especially on a Friday. I want to go to the Renaisance fair soon but no go on that if things keep being this busy.
