Good article at the WSJ discussing the likely results of the upcoming election. - Medicare for all . When HillaryCare cratered in 1994, the Democrats concluded they had overreached, so they carved up the old agenda into smaller incremental steps, such as Schip for children. A strongly Democratic Congress is now likely to lay the final flagstones on the path to government-run health insurance from cradle to grave. Mr. Obama wants to build a public insurance program, modeled after...

Watching Obama absolutely crush McCain in the third debate. It's just so painful.  Republicans decided to have a "moderate" old maverick. They got their wish.

I really can't wait until this election comes and GOES. I'm a conservative and I make no bones about it. I keep up on politics and foreign affairs as a hobby all the time. But every 4 years, suddenly lay people who barely pay attention suddenly become political experts ready to insult the intelligence of those who disagree with them. It's particularly annoying reading Digg, a site I usually like but is populated by left-wingers who, if asked, say that Digg is dominated by left-wingers...

Very good article at the Washington Post today by Andrew Klavan Myth # 1. Hollywood has no political agenda -- it's just out to make money . Would that it were so. All through 2007, Hollywood sent American multiplexes the message: "We don't like the war on terror." All year, American moviegoers sent a message back to Hollywood: "We don't care." "Lions for Lambs," "In the Valley of Elah," "Redacted," "Rendition" -- movie...

I've said before that there's no circumstance I would vote for McCain. But watching how he has dealt with this financial crisis reminds me why I would never support him. He's no maverick. There's no straight talk. He's just a politician with a marketing slogan who doesn't really know why he wants to be President.  He's Bob Dole II and he's going to lose like him. Obama, by contrast, deserves to win.  I don't agree with Obama on any major issues. But he knows why he wants to be Pre...

This week we intend to release the first update to the Demigod engine test beta (beta 1-A).  Under the hood there have been tons of changes made and we're beginning to make room for some of the more significant changes you'll be seeing in Beta 2 (beginning of November). Here are some of the highlights: My friend Soren Johnson has a great article entitled " the seven deadly sins of strategy games ".  The bottom line is to paraphrase Sid Meijer, good st...

I'm absolutely loving Windows Vista 64-bit.  I'm never ever going with a 32-bit OS ever again. I love not having to sweat memory anymore. Once we get people away from 32-bit OSes, we will see an explosion of next-generation apps. Right now, in 2008, we still have people worrying about apps that use 20 megs of RAM.  I look forward to a laptop with 16GB of RAM. It says something about how limiting our OS is when we have SSD units at 128GB but systems with only 2GB of RAM (RAM...

Tonight's debate scored by me. Q 1: How do you feel about the financial bail out package. Barack: 9. Good answer. McCain:  5. Lame.   Q 2: What do you think of the plan. Barack: 6. He says he warned against this disaster. A bit lame in that he blames Republicans exclusively.  McCain: 8. Better. Barack (followup): 8 articulate. McCAin (followup): 5. Cliches.   Q 3: What should we do about government? McCain: 7. ...

Okay, yesterday I whined about how hard it is to go green.  So let me give you a bit more info... So I'm building a new house for our family. I decided early on that I wanted to go green.  I happen to be in the fortunate position to go all out here. So let's go over the techs: Wind generation Geothermal power solar power So there you go, the three main renewal energy sources you can use on a new house. So what's the problem? Let's start with ...

So we're building a new house, I've got 13 acres of land.  I'm looking into all kinds of different ways to be green. Geothermal, solar, and wind power.  It's not going very well so far.  I think a lot of these people who are saying we need to use renewable energy haven't actually seriously looked into this.
